SERVICES

A B O U T

Vivienne is an Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle Consultant. She is married with two teenagers and the whole family follow an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Following this lifestyle means that she can understand her children and what is happening as they grow older, so for instance, the teenage years which are governed by pitta dosha can be much easier to handle as she knows how to pacify their pitta doshas, understand their imbalances that occur and keep them on an even keel. Her husband has a very academically challenging and at times stressful occupation and Ayurveda makes things much easier for him.

The family live at the beautiful headland of Pentire on the outskirts of Newquay in Cornwall. They live a stones throw from the famous Fistral beach and all benefit hugely from living in such a wonderful place.
Viv has been passionate about Ayurveda for many years and although she doesn’t see a huge relevance towards the fact her mother was born in India, therefore meaning Ayurveda has always been in her life, it has certainly influenced the direction in which her life has gone. Viv is always keen to point out though that this wonderful way of life is for everyone, whether or not we have an interest in the culture or the foods that come from India. She does however really enjoy teaching people about the wonders of herbs and spices and how they can be used daily, and people love her interesting recipes.

Viv’s favourite part of her work is her work in schools running meditation sessions with the students. Her sessions help with behaviour problems such as anger, lack of confidence, kindness to each other, how to stay focused in class and how to feel happy and peaceful. She also helps students at times of exams teaching them exercises they can do to help them to feel motivated, concentrate better and stay calm and focused in the exams. The teachers have been very pleased with the results from these sessions and the children really enjoy them, some saying it is their favourite part of the week.

Viv has also worked with a football team helping them to focus and feel confident before a match, and her son is keen as he finds meditation really helps him as a goalkeeper to feel confident, grounded and focused.

Viv has been training in Ayurveda for many years and her study will never stop as far as she is concerned. She is a qualified Ayurvedic Diet & Lifestyle Consultant and her training was with Dr Deepa Apte.

WHAT IS AYURVEDA ?

Ayurveda is the ancient health system that originates in India, slowly increasing in popularity here in the west. Ayurveda teaches you how to reach your optimum health.

Ayurveda believes that everything in the universe is made up of five elements. These are space, air, fire, water and earth and they are energies which are the building blocks of everything we see around us, people, plants, animals and seasons. Space is the space in which everything happens and it condenses to become air. Air moves and causes friction which causes heat or fire. Fire produces moisture which condenses to become water and water condenses to become earth which is the densest element.

To relate these elements to our bodies, earth represents all visible solid matter and it gives stability and rigidity, so for example tissues, bones, teeth and even the cell structure. Water is anything with moisture, so our blood and the fluid in our body. Fire is anything that is hot, acidic or combusting, so it is represented by the digestive enzymes and the body temperature. Air is mobile and dynamic and in the body it governs all movements and actions. Ether is the space in which all of this happens.

For us to remain healthy we need to be able to recognise these energies.  As they are invisible we can look at their qualities as each element has several.  Some obvious ones are ‘heat’ for fire, ‘dry’ for air, ‘moist’ for water and ‘stable’ for earth. these energies. CONSULTATION

HOW A CLIENT IS TREATED
The client’s current constitution is assessed so that the correct advice on diet, lifestyle, massage, herbs and yoga can be given. This advice can make a huge difference. Sometimes clients see fast results, sometimes it may take a little longer depending on the doshas and level of illness.

Although advice is given on the above aspects, not all of these will always be used as not all clients will want that. So for instance, if a person has no intention of practicing yoga, of course that can be excluded, or perhaps a client isn’t keen on the idea of taking herbs and that is fine also. However, to use all the tools is the ideal way to return to the correct balance.

WHAT TO EXPECT
During a consultation, many questions on health, medical history, lifestyle, diet, personality and physical appearance are asked. This will ensure that Viv has a clear picture of the client and their needs. She also records pulse and tongue diagnosis, other useful tools to aid consultation.
