Welcome to Aylesbury Counselling

We all have times when life feels difficult or overwhelming.

At times like this, having the opportunity to talk things through with someone in a safe and confidential environment can make a real difference.

Counselling can provide you with the space and time to reflect and consider whether you would like to make changes or to decide what direction you want your life to take.

I am an Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor working in Aylesbury and the surrounding area. I offer reasonably priced short and long-term therapy in order to ensure it is as widely accessible as possible.

Sometimes life can feel out of balance and we get weighed down. This can come after a series of challenging events or in response to a change in our lives such as redundancy, the loss of a relationship or even after the birth of a baby. There may be things from the past which are causing emotional distress in the present.

Counselling can offer a safe, confidential and supportive space where we can work together to help you step back and re-balance your life.

Different Approaches I Use:
  • Person-centred Therapy
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
  • Transactional Analysis

About Julie

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor, meaning that I have been trained in a number of theoretical approaches. I can therefore work with clients combining elements of Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis.

I am currently undertaking further post graduate training in CBT and am nearing completion of my Foundation Degree in Counselling.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have obtained their certificate of proficiency enabling me to join their Accredited Voluntary Register.

I work within the BACP Ethical Framework and therefore engage in regular supervision to ensure my practice is both ethical and in the best interest of my clients.

I am fully insured and am committed to Continuing Professional Development so my clients benefit from the most up to date therapeutic information available. I also hold an enhanced CRB check.

The way I work

I have experience of working with both adults and young people, in voluntary settings and my private practice. Some of the issues clients have previously brought to therapy are:
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Eating Disorders
  • Self-harm
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anger Management
  • School Issues
  • Bullying
  • Work problems
  • Stress
  • Family issues
  • Parenting Concerns
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement

I will combine aspects of different approaches or work from a single modality depending on what method best suits you. Each session lasts for 50 minutes, generally once weekly and I am able to offer short or long term work depending on your requirements.

Some clients need just a couple of appointments to resolve an issue, while others may wish to engage in longer term work. Whatever you decide we will work together towards regaining balance and control in your life.

In either case, we will regularly review our work together, to ensure we are progressing towards your goals.

What counselling is not
Counselling is not about telling you what to do or making decisions for you. It is about helping you to explore your options and supporting you in any decisions you make.

What happens in a session?
During our first session I will explain and make an agreement with you about confidentiality, fees and anything else related to our working together, to clarify our arrangements.

I will ask you a number of questions to enable me to understand the issues troubling you and together we will agree a plan for working together - if that is what you decide to do. Any notes taken are only used as guidance for on-going therapy and are stored within the Data Protection Act guidelines.

Fees

  • Initial consultation £15 per half hour session
  • Ongoing therapy £30 per session (50 minutes) or £45 couples
  • There is no charge for cancelled sessions providing at least 24 hours notice is given.
  • Reduced rates for those on a low income are possible, subject to availabililty
  • Reduced rate for counselling students available

If you feel the time is right to make some changes in your life, or would just like some more information, I'd be happy to answer your questions or book an initial consultation.
