About us

It is an annexe to 80 Woodcote Road, Caversham Heights, Reading RG4 7EX
Leslie Maynerd qualified as an Aromatherapist at the highly respected 'Tisserand Institute'in 1996
and in 2000 also qualified as an 'Reflexologist'.
Clients describe the clinic as an 'oasis of peace and calm'.
Leslie allows time before the treatment to discuss relevant health issues and any other important information that will enable her to make
a specific choice of oils for that client. No premixed oils are used.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy massage is a marvellously life-enhancing process, and has a range of beneficial effects from simple feel-good pampering to detoxification, stress relief and treatment of specific ailments. Massage relaxes muscles and improves circulation and lymph flow, soothes physical tension and relieves mental stress.

In aromatherapy massage, essential oils are diluted in a good quality carrier oil before applying to skin. Different carrier oils can be used according to the skin type and desired effect. The normal dilution is about 15-20 drops of essential oil to 30ml of carrier oil, such as Sweet Almond, Sesame, Sunflower, etc. This is approximately 2-3%. Sensitive skin may require half this concentration, or even less.

Reflexology

This is an ancient therapy known to man for thousands of years . It was first practised by early Indian Chinese and Egyptian people. In the early 20th century an American doctor introduced this therapy to the western world .It was further developed by Eunice Ingham, a therapist, in the 1930's. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in the corresponding part of the body. Thus when the big toes are worked on there is a related effect on the head area and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on the whole body.
The body has the ability to heal itself. Following illness, stress, injury or disease, it is in a state of imbalance and vital energy paths are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology can help restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.

A Reflexologist uses only hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet. Sensitive trained hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these points blockages can be released to restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Circulation is improved and toxins eliminated. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace so it is recommended that a course of treatments is undertaken to fully get the benefit.

A session will commence with a full medical history taken followed by 40 minutes of treatment ending in a relaxing foot massage. After the first treatment your body may respond in a very definate way, you may have a feeling of well being and relaxation; or you may feel nothing initially - feeling the benefit after two or three treatments. Every body is different and responds differently and at a different pace depending on the degree of imbalance in the body.

Testamonials

"I have been visiting Leslie regularly for over 10 years. Leslie welcomes you into her purpose-built clinic which overlooks the garden of her home. After chatting to you about how you are feeling Leslie mixes oils for an uplifting or relaxing massage and there is the option of listening to soothing music. I always leave feeling thoroughly rejuvenated. If you are looking for an oasis of tranquility in today's hectic world I can thoroughly recommend a visit to Leslie at 'The Oak House Clinic!'

'I need to be really warm to gain maximum benefit from my Aromatherapy sessions. Air conditioned treatment rooms leave me cold, but Leslie knows what I need and offers a personalised service. Oils are carefully chosen and the clinic is a beautiful and serene space to be. I have been a client for over 15 years and my monthly treatments are an essential part of my life'
- Pam Chilvers

'As I suffer from very tense shoulders, I find that Aromatherapy is a very natural way of releasing that tension. It is at the same time an extremely calming and relaxing treat.'
- Ghislaine MacMillan

'A longstanding client - 19 years! Recently I have been having a half massage on my shoulders and neck as I am in pain from both from other major health problems and I find it helps such a lot. I would definately reccomend Leslie for back and neck problems.'
