SERVICES

There are many reasons why people seek counselling and psychotherapy. Some people have specific issues on which they want to focus. Others may be feeling anxious or depressed or have a general dissatisfaction with life without necessarily knowing why. I may be able to help you to make sense of things which trouble you, identify changes you wish to make in your life and provide support for you during this period of change. The list below illustrates some of the issues of concern which you may wish to explore:

  • Bereavement and loss
  • Lack of confidence and low self esteem
  • Relationship difficulties (individuals and couples)
  • Unhappiness
  • Redundancy
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self harming
  • Other life changing situations

How I work with individuals

In our initial consultation I will invite you to tell me what brings you to see me. Maybe there is something specific troubling you, or you may not have a clear idea about why you might be feeling anxious or distressed. I do understand that the first session can be quite daunting and I will try to put you at your ease.

In this first meeting, we will decide together how to proceed and try to find a way forward that results in you gaining a new understanding of yourself and your situation.

I work in accordance with the code of ethics and practice of the B.A.C.P. This protects the interests of the client and guarantees confidentiality.

How I work with couples

Very often couples seek counselling when they have reached a crisis in their relationship and they want to decide whether to stay together or to separate. This is a traumatic time for people and it can be difficult for them to make sense of what is happening. I provide the opportunity for us to look together at how your relationship has reached this point and to explore the options you have.

However, your relationship does not have to have reached crisis point to seek counselling. You just might be finding that you don’t seem to be able to communicate as well as you once did. Perhaps life has become busy or stressful and you have drifted apart and you want to set aside time to help put this right.

Supervision and Mentoring

Supervision

I have a diploma in supervision from the Minster Centre. I am a group supervisor for a counselling agency and I supervise psychotherapists, counsellors and support workers in private practice.

Mentoring

I have experience of mentoring counsellors applying for B.A.C.P. accreditation. Sometimes help is required in deciding which accreditation route to take if you have not followed a B.A.C.P. accredited course.

Some people are rather daunted by the paperwork involved and put off applying for accreditation because of this. However, it is often a case of helping you to identify what you already know and how to put this down on paper.

Please note that I am not attempting to replace the accreditation workshops run by BACP and thoroughly recommend these.

About Me

My interest in counselling and psychotherapy developed from several courses I took to help me use counselling skills in my previous work. I decided to change career and completed a five year training course at the Minster Centre, North West London, where I obtained a Diploma and MA in Integrative Psychotherapy. As well as my private practice I have worked as a volunteer counsellor in an agency for young people. I have also worked as a psychotherapist for the NHS during an 18 month placement.

I am a BACP Registered Counsellor, a UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor and a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist.
