Nutritional Therapist in Cobham, Surbiton and Claygate - allergies, digestion, candida, weight, skin, fertility, hormonal and autoimmune diseases.

Welcome to The Ann Shaw Clinic of Nutritional Medicine

What you eat, drink and are exposed to each day can have a profound effect on your health. So many people think they eat a healthy diet, yet suffer a whole range of health problems. Some so-called 'healthy' foods can actually be at the root of the problem, because we have been led to believe they are unconditionally 'good' for us, yet we are not all the same.

With over 20 years experience in nutritional medicine, I have helped people of all ages. Some of the health problems I deal with are food intolerances, digestion, weight-gain, fertility, skin, low energy, toxicity, respiratory, hormonal, autoimmune diseases, babies and children's health.

I have a holistic approach addressing the root cause of health issues and focusing on the body as a whole, rather than on individual symptoms. I look at underlying imbalances and deficiencies, impaired digestion, toxic overload as well as emotional trauma to restore overall health. Simple and realistic dietary and lifestyle changes can significantly improve your well-being. A low allergenic diet and the removal of toxins allows your immune system to repair, and your body function properly.

Digestion is a key factor in health and symptoms such as bloating, wind, reflux and food allergies can manifest unless corrected. Digestion is vitally important as what we absorb each day in our diet, will affect every cell in our body and affect the way we look and feel.

I suffered multiple allergies when in my early twenties, which were successfully dealt with through nutritional medicine. Since then I focused my full attention and career on helping others regain their health. At consultations I test for food sensitivities and mineral deficiencies using Applied Kinesiology. This is a non-invasive discipline, that is also very successful within children and babies. I also offer a full range of functional laboratory diagnostic testing at leading laboratories.

Some of the health concerns I regularly see patients for are:

  • IBS/Constipation/Diarrhoea
  • Acid Reflux
  • Anxiety
  • Digestion
  • Candida
  • Weight
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Skin rashes
  • Fertility
  • Pre-conception and healthy pregnancy
  • Allergies
  • Hormones
  • Respiratory
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Unexplained symptoms
  • Emotional
  • Depression
  • Men’s health
  • Babies/children’s health
  • Autoimmune

Find your balance by testing for mineral and toxic levels, adrenals, thyroid, kidney/liver trends, sugar, oxidation, protein assimilation, cortisol and aldosterone production, and more.

I studied nutritional medicine at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London. My consultations include using Applied Kinesiology to test for food sensitivities and mineral deficiencies, and diagnostic functional laboratory testing when appropriate. I am a sensitive and empathetic practitioner, who takes into account individual needs and lifestyles to ensure a realistic treatment plan.

A professional member of The British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT), the Nutritional Therapy Council, (NTC), which uphold and advance the standards of qualifications, competence and conduct of those who practice nutritional therapy as a profession, and The Complementary And Natural Healthcare Council, (CNHC). I am also a qualified Phytotherapist, (A.Vogel herbal tinctures)

"I am pregnant!! Thank you for everything you have done for us so far, it has been life changing!"(trying to conceive for 2 1/2 years and now pregnant, 10 weeks after first consultation) - E.M. Middx.

About Ann

Having suffered with multiple allergies myself in my early twenties at a time when allergies were rarely acknowledged, I discovered that my symptoms arose from eating everyday foods and gradually began treating myself through knowledge gained by studying numerous health books. Impressed with my own improvement after consulting a nutritional therapist, I went on to study nutritional medicine at St. Bartholomews Hospital in London, and qualified in 1992.

I have successfully helped thousands of patients of all ages with various health problems, and am a professional member of The British Association of Nutritional Therapists (BANT), and the Nutritional Therapy Council, (NTC). I also have the qualification of NTCC, (Nutritional Therapy Certificate of Competence), and am CNHC registered, (Complementary And Natural Healthcare Council), recommended by the Dept. of Health.

Consultations

First Consultation:

All aspects of your past and present health symptoms will be discussed in the strictest confidence. You are encouraged to describe your health conditions in detail, including any contributory mental and emotional factors, no matter how trivial they may seem. Family health history, previous illnesses and medications, dietary habits and general lifestyle are all taken into account, both to assist diagnosis and to guide the most practical treatment, to fit the practicalities of your lifestyle.

A diet sheet, together with vitamin and mineral supplements are prescribed at the first consultation. It is recognised that many people, through pressure of work or routine, are unable to undertake a rigorous or extreme exclusion diet so I aim to make it a realistic health plan. As no two people are the same, supplements that may be appropriate for one person may not necessarily be right for another, even though they may both be suffering from the same health complaint.

The depth and speed of the health plan can be adjusted to suit needs and circumstances. Testing of a basic range of foodstuffs is initially undertaken, using applied kinesiology, with clinical laboratory tests as a further option where required. Kinesiology is a non-invasive testing method that gives immediate results and identifies if any of a range of around 36 substances that may impede treatment. If mild sensitivity is identified, this may influence the further choice of mineral or vitamin supplements, whilst in more severe cases these foods should be restricted during the initial phase. In all but the most extreme cases, these foods can be re-introduced in time.

I also offer free email/telephone support in the first two weeks of the initial consultation.

Follow-up Consultations

Follow-up consultations help to gauge progress and make any adjustments that may be necessary, as in many instances symptoms will subtly change as the programme takes effect, and progress will be accelerated if the prescription is adjusted in pace with these improvements.

For many patients, only a single follow-up consultation will be necessary, whilst others may choose to continue occasional visits to maintain their progress, or to extend treatment at a deeper level. How Many Consultations?

Usually only two or three consultations are required, depending on the speed of progress. Some minor adjustments may be required periodically to the diet or supplements. Further foods can also be tested during follow-up consultations. Patients are encouraged to bring any foods, drinks or cosmetics they regularly use for testing, if sensitivity to these is suspected.

Consultations Fees

First Consultation:

90 minutes - £110.00 (all consultations include testing for food intolerances and mineral deficiencies)

Follow - Ups

45 minutes - £60.00 (usually only one or two are necessary depending on your condition)
