Acupuncture to bring you back to balance
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a system of healing that has been practised for over 2,500 years, having originated in China and other far Eastern cultures. Acupuncture is a gentle and effective treatment that focuses on helping the whole person, aiming to improve their overall health and well-being and today it is widely used and accepted all over the world.
Your First Session
Your initial session will take approximately 1.5 hours and will involve an in-depth consultation where I will take a full case history using a number of different diagnostic methods to get a complete picture of your health and lifestyle. This includes detailed information about you: your symptoms, a full medical history, questioning your systems (sleep, appetite and digestion) as well as pulse and tongue diagnosis. Subsequent treatments will take 45 minutes - 1 hour. It is recommended to wear loose clothing and eat a good meal before treatment.
Frequency of Treatment
An initial course of 5 sessions is often recommended, but frequency will vary depending on the nature of your individual condition, whether it is chronic or acute, the duration of the problem and lifestyle factors. Initially it is best to come weekly, then as your condition improves, treatment can be spaced out. Some patients decide to have preventative treatment on a less regular basis to maintain good health.
In addition to acupuncture treatment, Annabel may incorporate other forms of Chinese Medicine such as Tui Na (Chinese energetic massage), Cupping, Moxibustion, Guasha and lifestyle advice into her treatments.
Annabel's interest in acupuncture came about after experiencing the positive effects of Five Element acupuncture treatment. She was so intrigued about this ancient practice of medicine that she made the decision to study at the prestigious College of Integrated Chinese Medicine.
Annabel has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Acupuncture, validated by Kingston University, and a Licentiate in Acupuncture. Her training has enabled her to integrate two styles of acupuncture, Five Element Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), along with extensive training in conventional medicine.
According to Chinese theory, we're made up of the 5 Elements; Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. There is always a predominant Element within all of us and when this Element becomes sick or out of balance then we feel ill and require assistance. Diagnosis and treatment is focused on the balance of the Five Elements within the person. By restoring this overall balance of energy, 5 Element Acupuncture can make you feel better in a general way, promoting an improved quality of life.
Annabel treats a wide range of physical, mental and spiritual complaints. She has a special interest in fertility, gynaecology and obstetrics, actively undertaking specialist training and is a member of the London Acupuncture Childbirth Team (ACT). She sees a number of patients for natural and assisted fertility (IVF, IUI) and has worked with patients with gynaecological issues such as endometriosis and polycystic ovaries. She offers support throughout all stages of pregnancy, both pre and postpartum. In addition, Annabel deals with a variety of issues including emotional wellbeing (stress, tension, anxiety, depression), sleeping problems, digestive issues, bowel and bladder problems, menopausal symptoms, headaches, muscular and joint pain, sports injuries, detoxification, low energy, weight loss and skin complaints.
However Annabel sees symptoms as alarm bells of distress, and is able to explore more than just the obvious symptoms, but treats the underlying cause of illness. She offers patients both a solution to their immediate problems with TCM, yet with Five Element Acupuncture, diagnosis and treatment is focused on the health of the mind and spirit.
