Angela Hayes Therapy

Sometimes though, an illness or an injury, some single event, or simply just too much of everything, can throw us out of true to the extent that we can't find our way back.

Whatever the ailment, these are the times when a Complementary Therapy may be able to help.

My own personal experiences, initially of Homoeopathy and The Alexander Technique, then of Therapeutic Massage, Craniosacral Therapy and other allied disciplines, all continue to support me and to fuel a fascination with holistic health.

Complementary Therapy is meant to do just that, to complement ... to work alongside whatever other particular treatments may be needed. Sometimes though this approach may be the one single thing that makes the difference where nothing else has helped. "I've never been well since ......" is something I hear a lot from people who find their way to me.

With over 20 years in the profession as a Craniosacral Therapist, Massage Therapist and Teacher, I continue to be delighted that my way of working can help patients find their way back to health.

My clients range from in age from 0 to 90+ and the delicate approach of Cranial work can be just the right touch at any stage along the way, from the time around birth, with both mother and baby, to the sometimes more fragile states of old age and also at many other moments throughout life.

Massage Therapy and the extraordinary power of touch to help healing, continues to astonish me. I taught massage classes for many years and love to see the transformation in people as they connect with their bodies.

I am now pleased to have a wide range of skills ... able to talk over the problems, assess and discuss the needs, and then to work with Massage or Cranial Therapy as necessary, responding to the individual requirement.

What is 'Craniosacral therapy?'

Is it some sort of head massage?
Not at all, although it does sound a bit like that.....

Craniosacral Therapy emerged out of Osteopathy as an approach that works, not just with bones and muscles, but also with all of the body systems, to assess need and support recovery. The treatment does not focus on specific conditions but works to encourage the body's own natural healing capacity.

This way of working is completely non-invasive and involves only a very light touch and no manipulation.

... and how does it work?
Whenever you have an injury or go through an illness, your tissues react in response, and not solely where it hurts. Your whole body will be involved in the attempt to adapt. Sprain an ankle for example and you might find that you get backache just because you have been limping, emotional stress can also be expressed physically, perhaps with digestive problems.

Usually we recover well, but sometimes, especially if the situation is stressful, these patterns of adaptation remain, and can build up over time. Your body 'forgets' how to reset itself.

All this is reflected in the overall tone of your tissues and the state of your nervous system especially as expressed in the fluid that surrounds your brain and spinal column (from your head -- cranium to the base of your spine -- sacrum)

The trained hands of the Craniosacral Therapist can identify within these fluid movements the reflected patterns of trauma, restriction and congestion throughout the body.

This gentle attention can assess the situation and encourage your nervous system to settle, your tissues to begin to let go of contractions, and helps you and your body to find ways back to better balance and an improved level of functioning.

It seems that the therapist's focused enquiry - bringing with it a clear awareness of how the body works and how it can get stuck in trouble - can initiate a healing response.

What is 'Therapeutic Massage?'

This is a massage that will address the whole of you, allowing relaxation and recovery on all levels, but which also has the depth of focus to be able to respond to particular conditions.

The treatment can be particularly effective with such problems as:
  • Stress and Fatigue.
  • Headaches and Insomnia.
  • Back Pain and Arthritis.
  • Neck and Shoulder Problems.
  • Muscular Aches and Strains.
  • Pregnancy and Post-Natal Recovery.
  • Accident or Surgery Recovery.
  • Sport or Training Injuries.

Each session is tailored to your individual needs and requirements based on an initial consultation and assessment.

Why Massage?

Massage is the age-old art of healing through touch. A massage treatment can be an opportunity for all the body to relax, recover and re-balance.

Focusing on the muscles and joints, massage affects the circulation, respiratory, digestive, immune and nervous systems ... in fact the whole body.

Regular massage can improve both your general health and your ability to cope with the strains of everyday life. It can keep you literally 'in touch' with yourself.

There are few conditions that make massage inadvisable, but any doubt can be checked with your doctor and I would certainly advise you of this, if I thought it was necessary.

Massage very rarely conflicts with any medical treatment and more often than not actually supports and speeds recovery.

Therapeutic Massage in particular can be beneficial in cases where there is little other help available, or where there is long-term pain or discomfort.

It is not unusual for someone to come to me with one particular problem, then to notice that not only is it resolved, but also they feel better overall ... often in a way they had long forgotten.

Health is more than just an absence of illness.
