Equine Facilitated Therapy offers an encounter where the therapist and client are joined by horses in the process of exploration and growth.

Working with self development with horses allow us an authentic connection to our sometimes long forgotten kinship with nature.

Horses live in the moment and being with them can help us to experience what it means to be in relationship where honest feedback will always be given by the horse who, being by nature a prey animal naturally senses if we are being authentic in our attitude and intention.

What is Equine Assisted Counselling?

Equine Assisted Counselling offers an encounter with horses in their natural setting at the present moment. Being with horses and a counsellor allows clients new self awareness in a natural, relational way, just observing the herd can help us to understand where we are in our own relationships and can release emotions as the horses mirror our feelings back to us. Horses are wise Teachers and offer empathy and non-judgmental acceptance of us and support our journey with honest feedback about where we are at at this present time.

What happens in an Equine Assisted Counselling Session?

There are many ways to connect with horses, there is no ridden work involved and all the interactions take place on the ground. Each person will be drawn to the horse that they need to be with and for many different reasons. A session may involve choosing a horse and grooming or just observing the herd and how they live in harmony with each other. Other activities may involve using Natural Horsemanship psychology to connect with horses intuitively at a deeper level or simply just ‘being’ with the herd and exploring your feelings around horses.

The Horses

There are four horses in our herd. Anam Cara, a Thoroughbred mare who is also the herd leader, Sonny, a rescue horse who is an Andalucian gelding with one eye and Carlos & Crunchie who are miniature Shetlands. The herd are only handled with Natural Horsemanship methods that use the psychology of the horse’s needs as the basis for interactions and training methods.

We look forward to meeting with you, look at our website for lots more pictures and information, the horses are waiting to heal you!

About

My name is Louise Pell and I work as a Therapist. I have a deep love for all animals and in 2009 realised a life long dream of owning a horse. My first horse I named 'Anam Cara' which means 'Soul Friend'. To me a soul friend is someone with whom we can share all the secrets of our lives, such a friendship allows us to be fully recognised and accepted. Cara has been the inspiration for my exploration into Equine Facilitated Therapy and as we journey together she has revealed to me many truths in my life.

'Sonny' was my second equine friend who had lost an eye and was due to be designated to the meat man. Thankfully we were able to rescue him from this fate and now two years on he is blossoming both as a therapy horse and in our journey into natural horse man ship.

Next to enter the herd were two Mini Shetlands names 'Carlos' and 'Crunchie' who made our herd and my joy complete.

My herd live as naturally as possible, living out all year round with a field shelter if they choose, in large fields they frolic and play as only natural horses can. I love watching the herd dynamics, Cara is the Matriach and herd leader whilst Sonny is a mischievious and playful boy who loves to romp with Carlos and Crunchie, as long as Cara agrees!

I invite you to join us in our herd and experience just how good horses are for humans.
