Our Services

Personal Training
Many personal training programs simply provide you with a motivator who will push you through a series of exercises designed to work specific body parts; this approach is flawed and will potentially de-train the body. In real life muscles do not work in isolation from each other but in integrated patterns simultaneously. Our approach rarely uses fixed machines; we predominantly use free weights, swiss balls, barbells and cables. By using this equipment we allow the body’s stabilising and neutralising muscles to switch on; thereby increasing the training effect upon the body, burning more calories and increasing metabolic rate. By choosing functional exercises that replicate natural human movement patterns, such as to bend, squat, lunge, push, press, twist and jump we challenge the body’s systems as a whole unit mimicking exactly how the body should work in everyday movement. This approach guarantees not only that you will burn calories and look good, but that you will actually perform everyday tasks or leisure/sporting pursuits much better. If required we can also provide you with a detailed exercise program including exercise photos with descriptions and a written report.

Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a safe & natural approach to healthcare. Patients may be treated for health problems from back pain to arthritis of the elderly. Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that places its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It is distinctive in that it recognises that most of the pain and disability that we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body’s structure as well as from damage caused to it by disease. Osteopaths use their hands both to investigate the underlying cause of pain and to carry out treatment using a variety of manipulative techniques. These may include muscle & connective tissue stretching, rhythmic joint movements or high velocity thrust techniques to improve the range of movement of a joint. Gentle releasing techniques are often used when treating acute pain, children or elderly patients.

Physiotherapy
Due to the pressures placed upon the National Health Service you may have to wait at least 3 months before you get treatment. By the time you get treatment your injury or pain may be a lot worse and your problem may become more chronic and long term. At out clinic you may be seen on the same day or even at weekends .Physiotherapists help and treat people of all ages with physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which sees human movement as central to the health and well-being of individuals.

Corrective Exercise
Not getting the results your hard work deserves? If your body is out of balance it's unlikely you ever will. Whether your training results are poor, you suffer from back pain or you have physically compensated because of an injury, corrective exercise will allow your body to return to balance and achieve better results. The one thing an 80 year old adult and a 22 year old professional athlete have in common is that they would both benefit from corrective exercise. Movement originates from posture and the overall structural integrity of the body, so if your posture/structure is less than optimal your movement patterns will be inefficient meaning that you will obtain decreased results from any training program and possibly also pain.

Injury Rehabilitation
If you have recently been injured or still haven’t recovered from an old injury then we can help you. Because of the strain placed upon the NHS, medical treatment may only get you into a position where you are able to become mobile again and you are often left to your own devices to gain the strength you had before. Ever injured a limb? It doesn’t take long for muscle, function and strength to disappear. Working with an injury rehabilitation specialist will get you back to where you want to be quickly. Some of the pathologies we have dealt with include ACL damage (anterior cruciate ligaments), PCL damage (posterior cruciate ligament), rotator cuff, disc bulges both anterior and posterior, Spondlylosis, Spondylythesis, Spinal Stenosis, Spinal Cord damage, Stroke, and mobility after brain damage.

Nutrition and Lifestyle
There is no one diet that suits everyone; the "one size fits all" approach offered by government health bodies and diet clinics fails to recognise the different macro-nutrient requirements of an individual. Can you imagine an Eskimo eating the same diet as a Masai warrior or vice versa, they would feel unwell very quickly! Our dietary requirements have been built up over centuries and are genetically predetermined. We offer an individualised approach to nutrition and lifestyle to find the best macro-nutrient ratio for your metabolic type. There is no one diet that suits us all, some people thrive on a high carbohydrate diet while others gain weight easily. Discovering your metabolic type will allow your food choices to be tailor made for you.

Posture - Back and Neck Pain
In the desk-bound environment that most of us spend our time in, sitting for long periods in front of computer screens, it is almost inevitable that we will get back or neck pain at some stage. Our integrated approach to getting rid of this pain and ensuring that it does not return combines the soft tissue and/or manipulative treatment of Osteopathy with Corrective Exercise provided by a Chek Practitioner whilst also studying your personal ergonomics and recommending changes. We offer a full Muscoskelatal assessment including the measurement of spinal curves through static and dynamic movement allowing us to make scientifically based decisions on the best exercise solution. Our bodies were not designed for us to sit for 90% of the day; our bodies were designed for movement, so let us teach you how to become pain free and to regain functional movement.

Sports and Remedial Massage
Massage, applied skilfully, is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscoskeletal system. Received regularly this may help in the prevention of injuries which might otherwise be caused by overuse and under use. A constant build-up of tension in the muscles from regular activity or inactivity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves. Muscle imbalances may develop and often go undiagnosed until they are serious enough to cause you discomfort or impede function and performance. The skilled massage therapist will be able to detect variations in the soft tissues and by using the correct techniques, help you to maintain healthier physical state with improved function. It may therefore be reasonably claimed that one of the greatest benefits of sports massage is in the prevention of injury.

Injury Prevention
Whilst general advice tells us to keep our back straight and bend the knees whilst lifting objects from the floor, this advice is at best a half measure and can create conditions for further spinal injury. If we lose the ability to bend, squat, push, pull, twist and lunge we may as well get ready for disability. We have taught numerous back pain patients how to lift again whilst improving their mobility and life quality innumerably. Mummification is not an option; learn how to move again with confidence by developing a strong core and a mobile spine. It may be a slow process to build up the strength required, however we have worked with numerous disc patients who can once again perform functional movements with confidence and lift heavy objects from the floor. We can also come to your business premises and teach your workforce tried and tested principles for spinal health and lifting techniques eliminating costly days on the sick register and saving your business tens of thousands of pounds in sick payments.

Business Health
To deliver a health and wellbeing strategy can be difficult for any company and particularly challenging for a small to medium sized business. Your team deserves the same health and wellness considerations afforded to those employed by large corporations with the office space and money to develop extensive in-house health and fitness facilities. A business will never achieve its potential with an unhealthy and sick workforce; poor eating habits, inactivity, stress, back pain amongst others are costing you and the government millions of pounds in unnecessary sick payments and potentially lost contracts.
