Welcome to Acupuncture For Health

My philosophy at Acupuncture For Health is that I take the time to listen to each patient. I understand that each person's wellbeing is affected by his or her lifestyle, diet, emotions, attitude, and environment. These can all contribute to health issues, making each person’s needs different.

Ann Penford PG Dipl.Ac. MBAcC received her Post Graduate Diploma in Acupuncture from Northern College of Acupuncture in York. Ann also holds a Diploma in Acupressure and certification for Facial Revitalisation Acupuncture. She is also a professional member of British Acupuncture Council.

She now has a home practice in Birkenshaw, Bradford.

Ann is a founding member for the Zita West Network for Reproductive Health.
and as such can offer a holistic approach to help you boost your fertility, (both male and female) enhance IVF, support you through pregnancy and post natal recovery.

Ann also offers Facial Acupuncture.

Acupuncture - A natural form of healing.

a) Acupuncture works to help maintain your body’s equilibrium. It involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body to regulate the flow of ‘qi’, your body’s vital energy. For a number of lifestyle and environmental reasons, qi can become disturbed, depleted or blocked, which can result in some symptoms of pain and illness. In certain instances, traditional acupuncture can be an effective therapy to help restore balance and promote physical and emotional harmony.

b) Treatment is aimed at the root of your condition as well as your main symptoms. This approach helps with resolving your problem and enhancing your feeling of wellbeing.

You may notice other niggling problems resolve as your main health complaint improves.

c) Acupuncture originated in China and other far eastern cultures where it still features in mainstream healthcare, both as a stand-alone therapy and in combination with conventional western medicine. Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world. In the UK more and more people are finding out what acupuncture can do for them.

Who has acupuncture?

Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or to relieve specific pains like osteoarthritis of the knee. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell but have no obvious diagnosis. Others choose acupuncture simply to enhance their feeling of wellbeing. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages including babies and children. It can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.

What can it do for me?

Some people turn to acupuncture for help with a specific symptom or condition. Others choose to have treatment to help maintain good health, as a preventive measure, or simply to improve their general sense of wellbeing. Because traditional acupuncture aims to treat the whole person rather than specific symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a range of conditions.

Remember that acupuncturists treat the person, not just the condition which they have, so each patient’s treatment plan will be different. However, you can always ask your practitioner about other patients’ experiences, to give you an idea of what to expect. Many people return to acupuncture again and again because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.

In 2009 the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence recommended that acupuncture should be made available on the NHS, as a cost-effective short-term treatment for the management of early, persistent non-specific lower back pain.

You can get more information on current scientific research into the effectiveness of acupuncture by visiting www.acupuncture.org.uk or by speaking to a BAcC registered acupuncturist

Ann also spends time with the Positive Care Programme in Leeds; a unique health project for people with long term health problems and their carers. The Positive Care Programme is designed to give attention to the mind, body & spirit, the idea being that, over time, positive change may be experienced. The Positive Care Program is administered and provided for by a voluntary group of complementary practitioners.

Ann's practice is located in Birkenshaw which is within easy reach of Leeds and Bradford and 5 minutes from the M62 - Please see my website link at the top of the page for map and directions.

Ann's personal philosophy is reflected in her treatment style in that she seeks to treat the whole person and takes time to address all aspects of her clients' lives such as diet, lifestyle, meditation/spirituality, and emotional well-being. She likes to think of herself as not only an acupuncturist, but also a wellness coach who helps her clients create a lifestyle that will support comprehensive health, self-empowerment, and happiness.
