About Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing that has been used in China and the Far East for thousands of years. People mostly associate acupuncture use as a form of pain relief but it can be used for a variety of illnesses. Its focus is on the patient as a whole rather than treating isolated symptoms therefore aiming to restore, promote and maintain good health.

According to traditional Chinese philosophy our health is dependent on the smooth flow of our body’s energy. This energy, referred to as Qi, can easily become disturbed and imbalanced through poor diet, emotional issues, overwork, trauma and exercise. The aim of Acupuncture is to address the imbalances using the insertion of very fine needles along the channels of the body. As the body is bought back to a state of balance health and well being is restored.

Fertility treatments

Attempting to have a baby isn’t always as straight forward as it may seem. Couples are often faced with a minefield of emotions and life changing decisions, not to mention the financial burden of fertility tests and IVF. Acupuncture has a long and successful history in reproductive medicine. It can be used to help boost female and male fertility, prepare the body for conception and pregnancy and to treat underlying conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis and irregular cycles.

Acupuncture is good for relieving stress which is often a big factor in a couple’s difficulty to conceive. Acupuncture is good at redressing hormonal imbalances which are often associated with fertility issues as well as for boosting blood flow to the reproductive organs.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture has seen an increase in popularity over the recent years with many Hollywood stars believed to have used it. With coverage on programmes such as “10 years younger” people are realising there are easier ways to look and feel good without having to go through the pain and expense of major surgery. With its history stretching back as far as the Sun dynasty in China, some 800 years, this is by no means a new short lived craze.

Treatment involves several techniques to gain maximum effect. A course of 10 treatments is required to get the full benefit although results can be seen after 3- 4 treatments. Once the course is completed results can last over a year with only the occasional top up required.

Treatment starts with a relaxing and invigorating guasha treatment to the face. This wonderful treatment is used to encourage blood and energy flow to the face. Bags under the eyes can be reduced, droopy eyelids lifted, sagging and puffiness smoothed away along with the reduction of fine wrinkles. Following this insertion of hair-thin needles to key points around the face add to the lifting effect of the guasha treatment.

The long term benefits include increased moisture and elasticity in the skin, activation of collagen production, better muscle tone and jaw line definition and tightening of the pores. Patients will often get the overall sense of well being that is also associated with acupuncture treatment.

Muscular-Sketetal

Acupuncture can be incredibly successful in treating a variety of muscular-skeletal injuries. Conditions such as back pain, knee pain, hip pain and muscle injuries tend to respond very well.

Ian’s experience gained whilst treating and observing in Guangzhou, China has given him a valuable insight into the best approach for a variety of conditions. Backed up by further training in the UK he is also able to integrate the use of electro acupuncture, moxibustion and therapeutic heat lamps to get the best results.
