Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a treatment of gentle stretching and mobilising of skeletal muscle, major muscle groups and soft tissue.

Techniques applied gradually increase muscle flexibility, mobility and increased circulation to and from the tissue; also warming the area worked and improving the elimination of toxins and waste products produced by the tissue, leaving the muscles feeling refreshed, revitalised and deeply relaxed.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a treatment that helps to identify and treat potential injuries early, thus preventing them from developing into significant problems.

Active Balance Massage - Sports massage

Sports Massage also helps aid in Post Injury recovery and releases tension in muscles through deep tissue massage and a variety of muscle release techniques. The aim is to maintain muscle condition, increase flexibility, enabling full range of movement, which will contribute to a overall better performance.

For Stretch & Rehabilitation

With regular sports massage, injuries are less likely to occur. If an injury does occur, massage not only dramatically improves the rate of healing, it ensures the whole area heals properly. Regular massage reduces damage to the tissues, improves circulation, relaxes muscle spasm, improves flexibility and reduces tension. The competition of sport can be very stressful, but by incorporating Sports Massage into your training regime, you can enhance your performance.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a treatment of skilful restoration of mobility to soft tissues and joints.

The application of massage as a remedial therapy is based upon the understanding of anatomy and how the muscles function. It aims to re-balance the muscular and skeletal systems by working specifically on the muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments involved.

Advanced Remedial Massage

Advanced remedial massage is a treatment which benefits the circulatory system, nervous system and the mechanics of the body.

Muscle energy techniques (M.E.T.) are used to release adherent tissues and fascial restrictions, allowing joints to move more easily. These can be cervical, thoracic, lumbar and pelvic. The body is given space to heal itself as the far-reaching effect of advanced remedial massage counters the ill-effects of gynaecological, gastro-intestinal and respiratory problems, encouraging rest and repair.

Are you suffering with back pain or repetitive strain? - Something CAN be done!

Although remedial massage soothes away aches and pains its main use is to mobilise locked joints and re-balance the body framework for better posture and pain relief.

Advanced Remedial Massage Therapists are trained in anatomy and physiology as well as massage and mobilisation techniques (Muscle Energy Techniques), giving them the expertise to assess and realign structural and functional musculo/skeletal problems. Conditions that may benefit from Advanced Remedial Massage include:

ARTHRITIS • SCIATICA • BACK PAIN • 'SLIPPED DISC' • RHEUMATISM • MUSCULAR PAINS • HEADACHES • FROZEN SHOULDER • TENDINITIS • REPETITIVE STRAIN INJURY • FLEXIBILITY AND MOBILISATION PROBLEMS

Sufferers of chronic complaints may benefit from regular massage to maintain flexibility and good circulation.

Orthopaedic Massage

Orthopaedic massage is an advanced discipline within the field of medical massage, utilising a multi-disciplinary approach to assessment, treatment and specific patient home care.

Using disciplines as functional assessment to determine the exact underlying condition using myofascial release, neuron muscular therapy, PNF stretching, strengthening protocols, optimising performance in athletes which reduces injuries and restores structural balance to the entire body for pain-free movement and optimalOrthopedic Massage & Pain Managementperformance.

James Waslaski - pioneer of deep pain-free orthopaedic massage

Active Balance Massage's Garry Nimmo has been trained by and is a qualified teaching assistant to author and international lecturer James Waslaski, pioneer of deep pain-free orthopaedic massage, pain management and sports injury treatments. Active Isolated Stretching (A.I.S.)

Active Isolated Stretching (A.I.S.) is a method of fascial release developed by Aaron L. Mattes, RKT, LTM.

By identifying specific muscles to be stretched and isolating those muscles using precise localised movements, Active Isolated Stretching:
  1. Improves oxygenation and nutrition of myofascial structures promoting growth and repair
  2. Stimulates the circulation and drainage of lymph, helping eliminate metabolic wastes
  3. Improves flexibility and health of muscles, tendons and ligaments
  4. Breaks down the friction and 'glueing' among fascial sheathes
  5. Separates fibrosis and breaks down adhesions that may result from trauma or inflammation
  6. Realigns collagen fibers
  7. Reduces muscle spasm
  8. Reduces the risk of muscle strain and tear

First A.I.S. therapist in Scotland

Garry Nimmo has been trained by Aaron L. Mattes, the creator of Active Isolated Stretching.

Aaron Mattes has developed this method of proper athletic stretching over the past 35 years, working with thousands of patients, doctors, and health professionals. Aaron Mattes has been improving people's lives, their health, and their ability to become more flexible.

Visit his website www.stretchingUSA.com to learn more about how his stretching techniques have helped people, including professional athletes, overcome many physical limitations and exceed clinical expectations.

Manipulation

Manipulation is a treatment which uses examination techniques to identify problems and restrictions with in the skeletal system which can result in a limited range of movement and pain.

Treatments can begin by using techniques like soft tissue mobilisation (massage) to relax muscles around the effected joint, following this the bones themselves can be mobilised, aiming to restore normal function and range of movement. Muscle Energy Techniques, can also be used to facilitate this. Finally a High Velocity Thrust may be needed to complete the treatment.
