TREATMENTS

ON SITE MASSAGE

This refers to a form of massage that is carried out in a specially constructed chair, usually in the office environment. It is said to be particularly useful for those suffering from pain and tension in the back, neck and shoulder regions.

Seated Massage is relatively short in duration and the areas covered include the back, neck, shoulders, arms & hands, and scalp/head areas.

How Can ACUPRESSURE MASSAGE Benefit Me?

Acupressure is similar to acupuncture but does not use needles. Instead, the fingers, thumbs or knuckles are used to stimulate specific points or “acupoints” along the body. This pressure-point techniques - which involve applying pressure to concentrated areas - usually form a major part of the treatment. In this treatment I use a blend of essential oils that suits your need.

Acupressure aims to treat a person’s energy system, releasing blocked energy within the body.
It works on the principal that energy flows through the body via channels known as ‘meridians’. If the flow of energy becomes imbalanced or blocked e.g. by stress, it is said that our well-being will become compromised. By working the acupoints, blocked energy is said to be released and the energy flow restored.

My qualification covers Massage acupressure for muscular-skeletal conditions.

Western scientists believe that many acupoints are located according to the nervous system and may explain why working these points are said to affect corresponding areas of the body.

Seated acupressure is commonly used for staff in corporate organisations, as it can be done quickly and effectively. In that case, you can also remain fully clothed for this treatment.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed to ensure that acupressure is right for you.

How Can MASSAGE Benefit Me?

"There are over 80 types of massage therapy and in all of them, therapists press, rub, and otherwise manipulate the muscles and other soft tissues of the body, often varying pressure and movement.
Practitioners mostly use their hands and fingers, but may use their forearms, elbows, or feet.

Typically, the intent is to relax the soft tissues, increase delivery of blood and oxygen to the massaged areas, warming them, and decrease pain."

(Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council - CNHC www.cnhc.org.uk)

Despite being used for many years, massage is only now building a body of clinical evidence to support its use in the healthcare arena. Guidelines recently published by the National Institute for Clinical Evidence (NICE) recommends that patients with persistent, non-specific low back pain have access to a choice of different treatments, including massage. The NICE guidelines state “The effect of massage on patients with chronic low back pain lasted at least a year after the end of treatment.”

Savingy P, et al (May 2009). Low Back Pain: early management of persistent non-specific low back pain. London: National Collaborating Centre for Primary Care and Royal College of General Practioners. Available from the NICE website at: www.nice.org.uk

How Can AROMATHERAPY Benefit Me?

Aromatherapy is the systematic use of essential oils in holistic treatments that seeks to improve physical and emotional well-being. Essential oils, extracted from plants are thought to possess distinctive therapeutic properties, which may be utilised to improve health and prevent disease.

These natural plant oils are applied in a variety of ways, for example:
  • By massage blended in a carrier oil - the most used method
  • Adding a few drops to warm bath water (ideally diluted first)
  • Through inhalations (this is not advisable for asthmatics)
  • Blended into creams/lotions and other plant bases for individual use

“An essential oil is an aromatic, volatile substance extracted from a single botanical source by distillation or expression. Essential oils have been utilised in fragrances, flavours and medicines for thousands of years and there are some 400 different oils extracted from plants all over the world." (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council - CNHC www.cnhc.org.uk)

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed to ensure that aromatherapy is right for you.

BENEFITS:
  • You will see a dramatic improvement in general health and well being
  • Improvement in the colour and texture of the skin
  • Positive effect on mood and thought

How Can INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE Benefit Me?

Indian head massage has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years and works specifically on the area surrounding the head, scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper back. Indian head massage comes from Ayurveda, an ancient method involving natural therapies, which takes into account mind, body and spirit.

An Indian head massage usually lasts for approximately 45 minutes; although a back massage can be incorporated, leading the treatment to 1 hour. The treatment can be shortened to 15-20 minutes if it takes place in the workplace.

You will be invited to take a seat and relax on a low backed chair. The use of oils is optional e.g. sesame, coconut, mustard, olive or a special blend of oil with added herbs and spices. If oil is used, a towel will be used to ensure your modesty. Alternatively, you can remain fully clothed.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that Indian head massage is right for you.

How Can REFLEXOLOGY Benefit Me?

Reflexology deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands which are believed to correspond to all organs and parts of the body. It is a unique method, using the thumb and fingers, usually performed on the feet but in some cases also on the hands and ears. The therapist will work the reflex areas, which may help to relieve stress and tension; improve the blood supply to all areas of the body and promote the correct functioning of nerve impulses.

Reflexology:
  • Reduces stress levels and induces deep relaxation
  • Improves circulation
  • Cleanses the body of toxins and impurities
  • Normalises and balances the whole of the body
  • Revitalises energy
  • Helps to relieve pain by releasing the body’s own endorphins
  • Helps unblock nerve channels
  • Improves the neural pathways’ communication
  • It is a preventative care
  • Stimulates creativity and productivity

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that reflexology is right for you.
How Can THAI FOOT MASSAGE Benefit Me?

Thai Foot Massaged originated in Thailand about 2000 years ago.

The massage starts with some deep breathing and then continues with light pressure. All parts of the feet, lower legs and hands are included and treatment involves hands on stretching and massage to stimulate reflex points and also following the Thai energy lines (Sen). This treatment is said to stimulate the activity of internal organs and thus be hugely beneficial for optimum internal health. It is still taught by Buddhist monks in the temples of Thailand.

A Thai massage is a deep, relaxing massage which also incorporates stretching techniques. For a Thai massage, you should wear comfortable clothes and you will be asked to lie on a massage table or mat.

The massage follows the principal that energy flows through the body via channels known as ‘meridians’. If the flow of energy becomes imbalanced or blocked e.g. by stress, it is said that our well-being will become compromised. By working the areas on the body, blocked energy is said to be released and the energy flow restored.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that Thai massage is right for you.

How Can REIKI & Crystals Benefit Me?

Reiki (pronounced Ray Key) is a natural healing energy that works on every level of the body, not just the physical aspects. Reiki is the combination of 2 Japanese words. Rei means “universal” and kei means “life force energy”. This energy is also known as chi in China and prana in India. Reiki treats the body, mind and spirit, bringing harmony and balance, encouraging the body to heal itself.
Reiki is a non-invasive complementary therapy, said to use natural energy flow for health and well-being.

Reiki may be used on the whole body or can be localised to a specific part of the body. A full body treatment last 60 minutes.

You will remain fully clothed and typically be asked to lie on a massage table or be seated in a chair. Your therapist may need a few moments to enter a calm state and will then place his or her hands on or near various parts of the body, including head, torso, knees and feet. The hands will remain in each position for up to three minutes before moving to the next position.

Some practitioners may follow a fixed set of positions while others will use their intuition to guide movements to areas needing attention.

Reiki has many benefits, including:
  • Relief of stress, tension and anxiety
  • Balancing of emotions
  • Balancing of the body’s chakras
  • It may provide a closer connection with inner wisdom
  • It can help to ward of illness and fatigue
  • It allows us to respond more calmly to all events in our lives
  • It can ease pain
  • It can induce relaxation

Crystals each have their own properties, assisting in the rebalance of the body’s energy system (chakras). The crystal’s piezoelectric charge is thought to interact with the magnetic/electrical field around the body.

The body has 7 main chakras or energy centres and crystals are said to stimulate the chakras, enhancing their correspondence with each other.

Crystals can also be incorporated during Reiki treatment; they can be placed on or around the body or a pendulum can be used to correct energy imbalances, through their resonance and vibration. Notes will be taken by your therapist, detailing any changes that have occurred within the energy system and they will be explained after your treatment. After your treatment, you are advised to rest and avoid stressful environments if possible.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that Reiki is right for you.

How Can DORN THERAPY Benefit Me?

The Dorn Method is a safe, gentle and yet very effective therapy for back pain, sciatica, neck ache and peripheral joints. This very effective technique was developed by Dieter Dorn in Germany and has been used successfully for over 30 years.
The Dorn Method is so gentle that, unlike some other methods, the pelvis, vertebrae and other joints can be corrected without any risk. It is a gentle ‘fix it in motion’ method which can be controlled by the clients themselves. No force or twisting or cracking methods are used. It is well known that there are connections with misaligned vertebrae on health problems. When the misaligned vertebra is corrected, often the health problem disappears, e.g. back and neck pain, sciatica, headaches, tiredness, digestive problems.

The Dorn Method has a holistic approach and a unique self help therapy guide that enhances its therapy and gives it longer lasting results.

Dorn is a very effective and safe manual therapy and self-help method that can assist with many common problem areas including:
  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Neck and joint pain
  • Hip problems
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Misaligned pelvis
  • Incorrect leg length
  • Buttock/ Hip pain
  • Knee and ankle problems
  • Muscle strain and spasm

BREUSS SPINAL MASSAGE

Breuss Spinal Massage is a gentle yet effective spinal massage to relieve muscular tension, aches and pains in the back. It is one of the most gentle of all spinal mobilisation techniques making it a safe and relaxing treatment.

It is well known for its therapeutic effects on the nervous system and may start the regeneration process of malnourished inter-vertebral discs, making it an excellent therapy for back pains, slipped disc, muscular tension, etc. It has a wonderful calming effect upon the nervous system, reducing stress and nervous tension. It releases physical and energy blockages and is a balancing therapy for the mind body and spirit.

Breuss Spinal Massage is often combined with Dorn Therapy to enhance its therapeutic effect.

How Can Ear Candling Benefit Me?

Ear candling is an ancient practice that has been used for centuries in many cultures throughout the world. When lit, ear candles work by vaporising their ingredients and creating air flow towards the ear. They are hollow tubes made from unbleached cotton or linen and hardened with beeswax.
You will lie on your side on a massage table. The ear candle will be lit and gently inserted into the opening of the ear. Once treatment is completed, it will be repeated on the other ear. During treatment you may experience gentle heat around the ear area and a feeling of pressure being released in the ears and sinuses. You may hear popping sounds and a pleasant crackling as the ingredients are burning. When the candles have extinguished naturally, the outer ear, face and head will be massaged with an essential oil blend.

It is said to be particularly useful for ear, nose and throat problems such as:
  • Sinus problems
  • Relieving cold symptoms
  • Tinnitus
  • Its known to be helpful before and after flights

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that ear candling is right for you.

HOLISTIC FACIAL – Go Natural!

Holistic skincare has become increasingly popular, using natural products containing essential oils, botanicals, vitamins and anti-oxidants as an alternative to chemically based products. Holistic facial massage uses various techniques and products, tailored to specific skin types and conditions.

A therapist will begin a treatment by removing any traces of make-up on the eyes and lips, followed by a thorough cleanse of the face and neck. Exfoliants will be gently massaged into the skin, avoiding eyes and sensitive areas. The therapist may also steam the skin by applying hot towels to remove blockages and to soften the pores. A facial massage will then follow, nourishing the skin with oil or cream. Facial massage involves a range of massage movements, adapted to the client’s skin type and condition. Following the massage, a mask may be applied to the skin and your treatment will conclude with a moisturiser. An eye cream may also be applied.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that the holistic facial is right for you.

Benefits of Holistic Facial can help to:
  • Moisturise and nourish the skin
  • Relax you as the treatment has a calming effect on the nervous system

How Can Stone Therapy or “HOT STONES MASSAGE” Benefit Me?

Stone therapy is an exceptionally relaxing treatment, rooted in ancient therapy practices and used to create balance within the body. Hot basalt and cold marble stones are used by most therapists, with the positioning and temperature of the stones tailored to the individual client. A stone therapy treatment provides a deep massage to the whole body as well as concentrated areas.

Stone therapy is based upon geothermal therapy, which is the application of either heated or chilled stone to the body for the purpose of changing physiological responses.

A therapist will apply warm, oiled stones in several ways during the treatment. Stones will be placed on the body, delivering heat to concentrated areas and your therapist will massage other areas of the body with more heated stones in comfortable strokes.

Cold stones are also useful for muscle injuries as they have a soothing effect.

As with all treatments, a full consultation should be completed with your therapist to ensure that stone therapy is right for you.
  • Promotes deep muscle and tissue relaxation
  • Alleviates stress
  • Releases toxins
  • Relieves pain
  • Improves circulation
  • Calms the psyche
