Charlotte is a fully qualified acupuncturist who has completed three and a half years study at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (CICM) in Reading.

Charlotte holds both a Licentiate in Acupuncture (Lic Ac) and also a BSc Hons in Acupuncture and is fully insured by the British Acupuncture Council

Before setting up the Abbey Acupuncture Clinic in Bury St Edmunds, Charlotte spent 6 months working in the busy clinic within the CICM in Reading treating a variety of patients with a range of conditions and gaining a practical knowledge and experience of how acupuncture can be used to treat illness and injury and to support a patient’s health and wellbeing.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine and provides a holistic approach to health and wellbeing that enables a person to achieve a more balanced physical and emotional state. The philosophy behind traditional Chinese medicine in general and acupuncture in particular is that good physical and mental health requires the continuous, uninterrupted flow of energy (Qi or Chi) through the human body.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes illness, injury and emotional stress can interrupt the smooth flow of Qi and therefore cause ill health and poor wellbeing. Acupuncture aims to balance the flow of Qi to restore the person’s natural state of well-being. Acupuncturists insert very fine needles into specific points on the body to correct any imbalances and to allow the flow of energy to move smoothly around the body. Patients that receive an acupuncture treatment will often report an improvement in their specific conditions, a reduction in the severity of their symptoms and an increased sense of general well-being.

Treatment

Abbey Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to each person's health and will take approximately an hour and a half for the first appointment to fully understand you and your health. Once a diagnosis has been reached and an appropriate treatment plan agreed you will be given an acupuncture treatment which will involve inserting fine acupuncture needles into selected points.

The number of acupuncture needles and their location on the body will depend on the treatment plan devised for you. Charlotte may use one or two points in a treatment or she may decide on a combination of several points. An acupuncturist has over 300 acupuncture points to choose from, so if you have any concerns about a specific point please let Charlotte know and she will do her best to use an alternative point.

Acupuncture isn’t just about needles as there are various other techniques available to an acupuncturist to treat your condition:
  • Cupping
  • Guasha
  • Massage (Tui Na)
  • Moxibustion

If you have any concerns or questions please contact us by email or by telephone, we are always happy to talk potential patients through what is involved and where it may be able to help you.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural way to improve your complexion and give the appearance of youthful looking skin, it is a non-surgical procedure that is effective for many patients and like all of Abbey Acupuncture’s treatments it is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

There has been a lot of coverage in the press recently with many high profile celebrities admitting that they have used facial acupuncture to help rejuvenate the look and feel of their skin. There is nothing new in using acupuncture in this way, the practice is said to go back thousands of years to the Sung Dynasty.

Charlotte uses her knowledge of both TCM and 5 Element Acupuncture to ensure she is treating each patient as an individual and tailors the cosmetic acupuncture to their particular needs. She is a certified practitioner and has been accredited by the College of Chinese Medicine to use cosmetic acupuncture techniques.
