SERVICES Osteopathy is an established holistic system of diagnosis and treatment which lays its main emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body.
A healthy body depends on the balanced and effective integration of a complex system of bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, viscera and connective tissue.
Disturbances in the subtle balance of this neuro-musculo-skeletal system can result in pain, changes in flexibility and mobility, impaired blood supply and nervous system dysfunction.
Such disturbance can arise from physical strain or injury, but may also be a result of factors such as stress or lifestyle.
Osteopaths work with their hands, producing a treatment which incorporates a thorough examination, diagnosis and treatment. Specialist manual skills will consist of soft tissue massage, gentle articulation and mobilisation techniques to joints. These techniques help ease pain, reduce swelling and improve mobility. They allow osteopaths to deal with a wide range of conditions and help bring about an improvement in functional efficiency in the body.
Peter qualified from the British School of Osteopathy, as a mature student, following a previous career in the city. He brings with him a range of experience and expertise in the sporting arena, having spent time coaching young people in tennis, squash and swimming whilst completing a first degree in Psychology and Sports Science. Peter's particular interest lies in understanding factors that contribute to optimum physical performance and subjective well-being.
Peter was born and grew up in Hong Kong before going to the University of Birmingham to complete his first degree. During his osteopathy training Peter was awarded the Technique prize for his year at his graduation.
He is a Registered Osteopath with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). GOsC plays an important role in regulating the profession by ensuring that all registered osteopaths meet the required standards through a process of continued learning and skills development.
Having previously practised in Guildford and Marlow, Peter has been running his well established practice in Bookham for the last 8 years.
