PHYSIOTHERAPY TREATMENT

Physiotherapy is the application of therapeutic massage, manipulation and electro-therapy modalities including laser, ultra-sound and interferential treatments, which treat an array of musculo-skeletal injuries and conditions.

For good health and mobility, physiotherapy is the choice of many people in certain circumstances, as an alternative to taking medicines or having surgery.

Problems with joints, muscles or the nervous systems, as a result of sports injuries, arthritis or perhaps long term illness can lead to less mobiltiy.

Ailments treated by physiotherapy include:
  • MUSCULAR STIFFNESS

  • PAINFULL JOINTS

  • SEVERE HEADACHES

  • MIGRANES

  • CHRONIC BACK PAIN

  • NECK PAIN

  • RHEUMATISM

  • ARTHRITIS

  • FRACTURES

  • SPRAINS
If you have a problem that you think a physiotherapist could help with, its best to have a check up with your general doctor first, to make sure physiotherapy is appropriate.

You may also contact me for advise on your condition if you prefer.

SPORTS INJURIES

The term sports injury refers to the kind of injuries that commonly occur during sport or exercise. In many cases, these types of injuries are due to overuse of a part of the body when participating in a certain activity.

Sport and exercise can be beneficial to health. They can reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and obesity and help to beat depression.

However, exercise can also cause injuries, particulary if you do not prepare properly, or use proper safety equipment.

Most people get injuries through accidents, but professional and competitive athletes often develop overuse injuries. An overuse injury is usually a sprain, strain or fracture to part of the body that has been used repetitively.

Virtually any part of the body can be injured during sport or exercise. The most common sports injuries are outlined below:
  • SPRAIN

  • STRAIN

  • TENNIS ELBOW

  • GOLFERS ELBOW

  • RUNNERS KNEE

  • TENDINITIS

  • SHIN SPLINTS

  • ACHILLIES TENDON INJURIES
A key part of physiotherapy treatment of more severe sports injuries includes therapeutic massage, use of electrotherapy modalities and rehabilitation. Acupuncture may also be used for some conditions.

With most injuries getting the injured part moving gently as soon as possible, will speed healing.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is an ancient healing technique which is now well proven and widely accepted.

It's a simple and safe way to ease pain. Fine, sterile needles are inserted into the skin at precise points depending on your specific problem. This process stimulates your body's pain relieving hormones and eases your pain. Many patients find this relaxing, which in turn helps your recovery.

Most people respond best to a course of treatment, but as with all treatments, you will be assessed individually to ensure the right approach for you.

THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE

Therapeutic massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue to decrease muscular tension, increase removal of metabolic waste and promote nutrient delivery to healing tissue. Muscular knots can inhibit your ability to perform regular activities of daily living. As other parts of your body try to compensate for the ache of a tight or shortened muscle, they also start to become tight and uncomfortable. In a short time, an injury that began in your neck can refer pain or pin and needles to your shoulder, down your arm, into your wrist and eventually your fingers and thumb.

A wide range of massage techniques are offered to suit your needs. While many think of massage as strickly a luxury or a form of relaxation, nothing could be farther from the truth. Yes, massage is great for relaxation and stress relief, and many of my clients come here for that reason, but a large portion of my clients come to have their health problems or injury addressed.

Specific problems that can be addressed include:
  • BACK PAIN

  • NECK PAIN

  • MUSCLE PAIN

  • WHIPLASH

  • SPORTS INJURIES

  • FIBROMYALGIA

  • HEADACHES

  • ARTHRITIS

  • TENDONITIS

  • OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES

  • SCOLIOSIS
These are just a few of the many conditions therapeutic massage has been known to help. By combining therapeutic massage with conventional medical treatments, many people will experience improvement in their condition.

For best results it is important to have treatments on a regular basis to prevent your condition returning to its pre-treatment state.
