Welcome to Herts Pilates

Here you can learn all about our pilates classes in St Albans and Harpenden, Hertfordshire, how they can help you and check out our class timetables.

The great thing about pilates is that it's suitable for everyone, so Herts Pilates offers a full range of classes, from complete beginner classes to intermediate classes, antenatal pilates and postnatal classes for mums. We also run one-to-one pilates sessions and corporate pilates at your place of work. Our classes are designed to be fun whilst at the same time achieving your aims. They're not stuffy and we appreciate that you want to enjoy your relaxation time.

Herts Pilates' classes attract people just like you, both men and women, some who are simply looking to improve their fitness, flexibility and posture and others who are looking for firmer thighs, a flatter tummy or to strengthen their muscles. Pilates is not yet as well known as yoga but has been practised for many years by dancers, athletes and everyday people wanting to get fit, keep healthy and to get in shape.

Whether you're looking to pilates to improve your fitness, strength, to recover from injury, or to get yourself back into exercise, Herts Pilates' teaching methods ensure that you'll learn in an enjoyable environment from Pilates Institute and Stott Pilates instructors.

About Herts Pilates

Hi, I'm Claire. I first discovered Pilates 15 years ago whilst studying for my BA Hons degree in dance. Since then I've trained and qualified with STOTT Pilates and Pilates institute, as well as attending numerous fitness training courses, which include qualifying and teaching exercise to music, aqua, Boxercise and fitness yoga.

Over the years, I have taught at local gyms including Cannons, Esporta, Westminster Lodge and Harpenden Sports Centre. I decided to set up Herts Pilates since my true passion is Pilates (due to my dance background and keen participation in sport), and I wanted to be able to minimise class sizes to maximise benefit for students.

I teach a range of classes and one-to-one sessions throughout the week, from beginners and improvers, to intermediate, pregnancy and postnatal Pilates. I also work closely with local schools in St Albans and Harpenden and I also run fitness courses for year 10 and 11 girls.

Herts Pilates has a number of other, qualified pilates instructors running classes:

Helen

I qualified as a Physiotherapist 1998 and have incorporated Pilates into the rehabilitation of my patients since then. I recently qualified as Pilates instructor through the Australian Pilates Physiotherapy Institute . As a keen runner (training for the London marathon) I found Pilates has helped my own core stability and prevented any injuries. I teach a beginners class at Herts Pilates.

Ruth

I have always been interested in the body and how it moves, having studied both Sport and Exercise Science and Bsc Hons Physiotherapy . The natural progression was to teach Pilates and I qualified as an instructor with the Body Control Association of Pilates. I am a keen runner and have found Pilates has helped me regain more flexibility, prevented injuries and enhanced my running performance. I am now training for my 6th marathon. I teach beginners and improvers classes at Herts Pilates.

Jo

I’ve been in the fitness industry for 10 years, where I started with exercise to music, and a 1st class honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science. Then I took my NASM level 3 personal trainer award which led my interest to a more holistic and core based exercise specialist; I have been teaching Pilates for about 5 years. I am also currently in my 3rd year studying a 5 years masters degree in Osteopathy. I teach beginners and intermediate classes at Herts Pilates.

We know know through experience that students attend Pilates classes to achieve their own, individual goals. We work hard to ensure that everyone attending classes receives the attention they need to reach their personal goals. Many of the students had no prior experience of Pilates so if you're new to it, don't worry, we'll be gentle with you! During the classes, we try to gain a balance of hard work and fun, and all classes are kept small 8-14 absolute max. It seems to work since students continue to come back week after week.
