SERVICES

Welcome to Body Works Physiotherapy Pilates

Body Works is an integrated physiotherapy and Pilates clinic based in the Knighton district of Leicester. Our aim is to provide a high quality and competitively priced rehabilitation service. We specialise in the treatment of musculoskeletal problems such as whiplash, sports injuries, low back pain, arthritis, sprained ligaments and joints, strained muscles and post-operative pain or weakness. We offer clients the benefit of our 18 years’ combined experience working as chartered physiotherapists both within the NHS and the private sector. Our Pilates service is extremely comprehensive, providing both mat-based classes and supervised sessions in our fully equipped studio, with professionally certified Pilates instructors.

Pilates and physiotherapy.
Pilates and physiotherapy are perfect partners. The aim of physiotherapy is to help people achieve maximum recovery from pain, injury, disability and weakness, and Pilates-based exercise offers an effective means by which to achieve this.

Pilates and mobility.

Pilates-based exercise is excellent for those who have experienced reduced mobility due to loss of strength, balance or confidence. The equipment in our Pilates studio can be set to offer assistance to the user, rather than resistance, thus allowing the therapist to create a rehabilitation programme that the client can feel comfortable with from the very start. Progress can then be carefully and safely structured to meet the needs of the individual.

Pilates and performance.

Top sportspeople, particularly within fields such as football, tennis and golf, have long been aware of the performance enhancing value of Pilates-based exercise regimes. Within the world of elite dancing Pilates is virtually synonymous with good rehab practice. Whether you are seeking to improve performance or maximise recovery from injury Pilates can help you to achieve your goal.

Pilates and pregnancy.

During pregnancy the body produces increased levels of a hormone called Relaxin, which has the effect of making the joints looser, especially in the pelvic region. This brings obvious benefits for child bearing and birth but often results in low back pain also. Because Pilates is a very controlled form of exercise which focuses particularly on regaining and maintaining the strength of deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles it enables you to safely combat this negative side-effect. Post-natal Pilates offers similar benefits, as well as the opportunity to regain lost muscle tone. It can also help to reduce post-natal bladder weakness.

Studio Sessions

Recommended if you require rehabilitation following injury or surgery. These sessions may form an integral part of a broader physiotherapy regime or may be prescribed as a course of treatment in themselves, depending upon the nature of the problem for which you require treatment.

Studio sessions are also appropriate for anyone who requires an individual programme designing in order to help them achieve specific goals. This might apply to an athlete seeking to improve performance or prevent injury, or to someone who feels they have lost confidence or mobility when carrying out everyday activities.

Whatever your circumstances, the specialist equipment in our Pilates studio, along with the skills of our therapists and your own commitment, can help you.

Mat Classes

Ideal if your primary interest is general fitness or if you are aware of the need to strengthen your lower back and abdominals. These classes are also excellent for anyone requiring post-natal strengthening and rehabilitation. You will learn the principles of Pilates through a series of mat-based exercises, which progress as you develop body awareness, strength, flexibility and coordination.

Classes are limited to a maximum of 10 participants so as to ensure that you receive the closest possible supervision. They are held throughout the Knighton area and cost £45 per course of 6 sessions.

What conditions can physiotherapy help?

We are musculoskeletal specialists. This means that we are skilled at treating any pain or injury that affects a bone, joint, muscle, tendon, ligament or nerve. Examples of conditions we treat are neck and low back pain, sports injuries, frozen shoulder, headaches, repetitive strain injuries, hip and knee problems and heel pain. If it hurts we can probably help it! If we can’t then we’ll be able to advise you on what to do next.

What can I expect when I come for treatment?

At your first visit we will carry out a full assessment of your condition. This will involve examining the affected area in order to try and establish the cause of your problem, asking you questions about how and when it first began, how it affects you and what things make it worse or better. By gathering all this information together we will be able to formulate a working diagnosis and be in a position to commence treatment. At this stage we may give you some specific exercises to do and will advise you on general self care, such as good posture or the use of heat or ice, that should help your condition to improve. The total number of treatments required will vary from person to person and from condition to condition but we will always discuss our findings with you so that you understand the treatment options.

How much does treatment cost?

Our standard charge for account paying customers is £35 per session. For those who wish to pay as they go we offer a discounted rate of £30 per session.
How can I pay?

If you wish to use an insurance policy then you will find that as chartered physiotherapists we are recognised by all the major health care providers such as BUPA, PPP and Norwich Union. Alternatively, if you wish to pay as you go, we accept cash or cheques.

How long are treatments?

First appointments are always 45 minutes long. Thereafter appointments may be 30 minutes or 45 minutes depending upon the requirements of each individual case.

Do I need a referral to come and see you?

If you intend to pay for your treatment through an insurance policy then you may need to be referred by your GP or a specialist (ask your insurer). However, if you intend to pay yourself then no referral is required.

What if I can’t get to you?

Home and office visits are available. Contact us to let us know your circumstances and we will do our best to accommodate you.
