SERVICES

Welcome to Ann Dickinson | Osteopath | Acupuncturist | Naturopath

My name is Ann Dickinson. My house and practice are located at Shardlow just off the A6, where I have lived all my life. I have 2 grown up daughters and 2 grown up dogs!

I qualified in osteopathy in 1980 and obtained a diploma in naturopathy in 1989 at the Naturopathic Training Centre.

In 1995 I completed a three year course in 5 element acupuncture at the College Of Traditional Acupuncture in Leamington Spa and followed this with a two year integrated course in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine at Reading.

What is Osteopathy?

This is a way of finding and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints.

Osteopathic treatment restores better function to the body, its joints and muscles using various methods. These methods include soft tissue massage, joint articulation and manipulation and various forms of electrotherapy such as ultra sound, laser, interferential and magnetic pulse treatment.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practiced in China and the East for thousands of years.

Acupuncture aims to improve physical, mental and spiritual health by re-establishing the balance of vital energy (chi) in the meridians that run in a network around the body. Though often prescribed as a pain relief, acupuncture is, in fact, used to treat a wide range of illnesses and conditions.

The flow of chi can be affected by such factors as emotional states (stress, grief, anger, sadness and fear) as well as poor nutrition, trauma, the weather, infections and genetic tendencies.

The benefits of acupuncture frequently include more than relief from a particular condition. Being a holistic treatment (it treats the whole person) many people find it can lead to increased energy, better appetite, improved sleep leading to enhanced quality of life and sense of well-being.

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy recognises the body’s ability to heal itself, given favourable conditions. It is both a treatment and a preventive therapy and can be used for a wide range of complaints. The science of Naturopathy dates back many hundreds of years.

The aim of Naturopathy is to treat the whole person and to remove, where possible, the cause of disease not merely its symptoms.

The tools of Naturopathy include the use of herbal medicine, hydrotherapy, nutritional therapy, vitamin therapy, osteopathy, physiotherapy and massage.
