SERVICES

Welcome to The Foot Clinic

Podiatry

You have 26 bones 19 muscles and 30 joints in each of your feet and these work to keep you balanced and support your body. The foot is a remarkable structure however occasionally there are malalignments that can cause problems. These problems commonly result in flat feet, persistent ankle sprains, corns and callouses, symptoms can often present further up the body in the knees, hips and back resulting in pain in these regions.

Pain in the joints further up the body can be related to the foot and it’s posture. Biomechanics is the understanding of these relationships. Using this knowledge we can alleviate pain by making adjustments to the mechanics of the foot.

Treatment is individually tailored and can involve devices in shoes and sometimes exercises. The aim of the treatment is to resolve the symptoms by addressing the causes.

Physiotherapy

We have available a chartered Physiotherapist available to treat musculoskeletal pain.

The physiotherapist may use manual techniques/manipulation in conjunction with exercise therapy as well as acupuncture to help maximise movement potential and reduce pain in conditions such as these:
  • Neck and Back Pain

  • Golfers or Tennis elbow

  • Sciatica

  • Tension Headaches and migraine

  • Whiplash injuries

  • Wrist pain

  • Ankle pain 'weak ankles'

  • Hip, Knee and shin pain

  • Domestic and Industrial injuries

  • Sports Injuries
Osteopathy

Osteopathy is the first complementary therapy to be regulated by law (Osteopathy Act 1993) and this puts it on the same legal footing as dentistry and other mainstream health professionals.

Osteopathy is a system of whole body healing which dates back to the 19th century. An American doctor called Andrew Taylor Still devised it in 1874.

Osteopathy is a manipulative therapy, which works on the body's structure (the skeleton, muscles, ligaments, and connective tissue) to relieve pain, improve mobility and so restore all-round health.

Osteopaths believe that we function as a complete working system and that our body structure, organs, systems, mind and emotions are all inter-related.

Therefore, problems that affect the structural body also upset the balance of the body generally. Similarly, internal problems can reveal themselves in the body's structure as it adapts to accommodate any pain, discomfort or disease e.g. one may suffer with low back pain due to kidney or gynaecological problems, or a slipped disc may affect bladder control. By manipulating the body structure the osteopath's aim is to restore health in the whole person.

Foot Surgery

We have access to a local consultant Podiatric surgeon, in the event that a surgical intervention is necessary.

The Surgeon is able to correct deformities such as Bunions, hammer toes and claw toes. Surgery can also be effectively used to treat conditions such as plantar fasciitis and tendon problems.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment which can relieve symptoms of some physical and psychological conditions and may encourage the patient's body to heal and repair itself, if it is able to do so. Acupuncture stimulates the nerves in skin and muscle, and can produce a variety of effects. We know that it increases the body's release of natural painkillers - endorphin and serotonin - in the pain pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain. This modifies the way pain signals are received. We at The Foot Clinic use acupuncture to treat muscloskeletal pain, in combination with podiatric and physiotherapy interventions in order that your problem can be tackled a quickly as possible. Each patient's case will be assessed by the practitioner and treatment will be tailored to the individual; so it is impossible to give more than a general idea of what treatment might involve. Typically, fine needles are inserted through the skin and left in position briefly, sometimes with manual or electrical stimulation. The number of needles varies but may be only two or three.

Treatment might be once a week to begin with, then at longer intervals as the condition responds. A typical course of treatment lasts 5 to 8 sessions.
