Welcome to Ann Chester Pilates

Ann Chester worked in fitness for over 10 years before qualifying with the prestigious Body Control Pilates® organisation in 2003. In 2004 she attained a further qualification enabling her to teach machine-based Pilates on a Reformer. Ann opened her own private studio in Sheffield in 2005, where she is now assisted by other Body Control Instructors. Over 100 people per week attend the studio, many of them referred by local physios. Pilates training is available at the studio either as part of a matwork class (max. 9 people) or private lessons.

PILATES

Pilates is a body conditioning method that works in a different way to any other fitness technique. Pilates targets deep postural muscles, building strength from the inside out. Pilates will improve posture, increase flexibility and mobility, and relieve unwanted stress and tension. It helps reshape your body - which will become leaner and more toned. Pilates works for all ages and all bodies, from the first time exerciser to the top athlete. It is especially beneficial to those people who suffer from postural backache, neckache and migraines as it helps to rebalance the body and bring it into correct alignment.

BODY CONTROL PILATES®

Body Control Pilates® is a well established and respected school of Pilates, widely seen as the quality standard for Pilates teaching.

All Body Control teachers work to a code of practice which governs teaching standards, professional ethics and continuing education. Student teachers undergo an extensive course and complete a period of training where they are supervised by a more experienced teacher before qualification is given.



MATWORK CLASSES

A range of matwork classes are available, daytime and evening, for beginners through to intermediates. Classes have a maximum of 9 people and teaching is hands on with lots of individual guidance. All matwork classes run as a 6-week course. Before joining a class you will need to attend an introductory session. At this session we will discuss how Pilates can be of benefit to you, and run through a few basic exercises.

PRIVATE LESSONS

One-to-one sessions are also available, booked in a 6-week block. Private lessons are an ideal way to begin Pilates, and may be more suitable for you if you have an ongoing back or neck problem.

Private lessons can also be shared with a friend or partner. In a private lesson, you may do some exercises on a spring based machine called a Reformer as well as on the mat.

There are a huge variety of exercises available on the Reformer, and it allows for modifications for injuries as well as a really challenging workout for the fit and healthy.
