About Linda Louise Sheppard
Linda Louise Sheppard has run a psychotherapy practice in Warwickshire since 1983 and she is currently based in Kenilworth. After gaining an Honours Degree in Psychology at the University of Warwick, she went on to train with the Centre for Transpersonal Psychology in London where she obtained her Certificate in Transpersonal Psychology. This was followed a few years later by a Diploma in Transpersonal Perspectives and Skills in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Onto this base, Linda has continued to develop her understanding of self and others by exploring other counselling approaches and skills such as bereavement counselling, stress management, brief therapy, inner child work and positive goal-setting.
Over the years she has provided a counselling service for the DHSS, the Warwickshire Constabulary, several Employment Assistance Programmes and she has also worked for the NHS as a GP counsellor. This experience has enabled Linda to have the flexibility of working to effect positive and practical changes in people's lives in a few sessions, where time is a consideration, whilst also allowing for longer-term and in-depth analysis for those seeking to explore their psyche, feelings, creativity and personal growth in a more open-ended arrangement.
Linda has written two books on this theme of personal growth - 'Wake Up To Your Dreams' - (1994) - a book on dream interpretation based on her experience of dream analysis and giving some techniques for interacting with the dream process (now out of print but the author has a limited amount of copies on request) and 'Loving Self - Freeing Others' - (2000) - a self-help book for anyone who wonders how to heal the recurring wounds that surface in relationships and also how to live more creatively in between relationships.
Prior to embarking on her career as a professional psychotherapist, Linda originally began training to be a teacher of Art and English Literature but, after two years, she decided to travel abroad. She later settled in Edinburgh where she ran an antiques shop with a partner and began to study different philosophies and religions. She also explored alternative medicines and various forms of healing, but it was the fascination with dreams and the workings of the unconscious that eventually led her to pursue the path of self-development and analysis. Having spent many years as a client herself, she feels that the process of growth and self-discovery never really ends but always becomes the most fascinating adventure that anyone can pursue.
Most importantly, Linda wants to change the traditional image of psychotherapy, moving it away from the idea that you have to be mad, bad or sad before you can seek help. She wants people to enjoy the process of discovering their true vitality and potential in life. She has the psychic ability to tap into the core wounds of the individual and sense the best routes through to healing them. She works intuitively and dynamically, but her approach is also very grounded and practical, providing exercises for the client to practice or goals for them to pursue as aids to increasing their self-awareness and healing. Overall, her warmth and sense of humour ensures that the sessions, whilst often profound in nature, never lose sight of the essential joy of life.
