About Us

We are a physiotherapy practice based in Kendal, Cumbria and serving the southern Lake District, Morecambe Bay and the Western Dales.

You can visit us in our Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic at Kendal Judo Club, Parkside Business Park, Parkside Road, Kendal LA9 7EN.

Active-Physio also visits clients in their own homes, or places of work, at times that are often more convenient for them; allowing clients to fit physiotherapy sessions into their daily schedules.

We have Obstetric TENS units to hire, please contact us for details.

We are also able to provide a mobile sports injuries unit for external events catering for up to 2000 competitiors, providing physiotherapy, sports massge and first aid if required.

Active-Physio is owned and run by Amy Bateman who is a Chartered Physiotherapist and Registered with the Health Professions Council.

Amy trained at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle graduating in 1999 with a BSc Honours degree. Since then she lived and worked in London for almost 5 years, gaining a diverse range of experience before moving to Cumbria in 2003. In 2005 Active-Physio was established as a mobile physiotherapy service.

Active-Physio provides physiotherapy for clients registered with BUPA and most major health insurers, (please check before booking treatment). In addition, Active-Physio also provides sports massage and physiotherapy at several sporting events across the country, eg ACE Races, Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon, Windermere Marathon, Polaris Challenge, etc.

What can be treated?

Chartered Physiotherapists are involved in a huge range of care. Active-Physio provides treatment for:
  • SPINAL PROBLEMS – including prolapsed discs, degeneration, sciatica, stiff/painful neck (including whiplash), and referred arm and leg pains.
  • JOINT PROBLEMS – arthritis, injuries, pain, swelling and stiffness.
  • INJURIES – to muscles, ligaments, cartilage and tendons. Work-related conditions such as repetitive strain injury (RSI) and sports injuries.
  • POST-SURGERY – rehabilitation particularly after orthopaedic surgery e.g. hip and knee replacements, or after general surgery.
  • FRACTURES – treatment to increase the healing rate and regain optimal function once the bones have healed.
  • CHEST CONDITIONS – both medical and surgical including asthma, chest infection, pneumonia, cystic fibrosis, emphysema and bronchiectasis. Our therapists can also advise on pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation.
  • REHABILITATION – specific treatment to restore normal health as far as possible and restoration of function and independence.
