Welcome to Early Nurture Breastfeeding & Doula

About Us

Nurturing your baby means feeding, loving, comforting and caring for your baby to ensure that he grows happily and healthily. Early Nurture provides information and support to help you achieve your goals and to assist with the early days of getting to know your new addition to the family.

A new baby, especially a first baby doesn't come with an instruction book, and even if he did - could you be sure that he'd read it too?!

When you discover that you are expecting your new addition, the focus tends very much to be on the actual delivery. Even though you may have been to classes or read the books you often don't take on board anything further on than the first hurdle of the birth you your baby. - Then it happens - it hits you - what do you know? Can you remember what you read or that you were taught? Perhaps your baby isn't 'text book' how do you deal with him? How do you know if he's hungry or wet? Is he crying because he wants comfort or a nappy change?

Early Nurture provides Breastfeeding information, home visits to ensure that feeding is going well, breastfeeding classes to provide information ante natally or when you want to return to work or introduce solids; or a doula to visit you every day for a few hours for the first few weeks to help and guide you on all these issues, as well as a shoulder or listening ear to encourage, support and back you up.

Nobody would give you a set of car keys and a highway code and expect you to go and drive a car without having lessons or instructions or practical help, so it's natural that you might need this same sort of lessons or practical help when you've got a new baby.

Give us a call and see how we can help you.

About Pam

Hello I'm Pam Lacey.

I am the mother of two sons. I breastfed both children and found it a positive and enjoyable experience, but not entirely trouble free! When my youngest son was in his early days of breastfeeding, I was dismayed at the number of mums who had abandoned breastfeeding so early on when they clearly would have preferred to continue. So, I decided to train as a Breastfeeding Counsellor in order to support other mothers to fulfil their breastfeeding ideals and to overcome problems.

I was trained and have been a volunteer Breastfeeding Counsellor with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers since 1984, and have a special interest in getting breastfeeding off to a good start, particularly with positioning and attachment and the natural patterns of breastfeeding and onto natural weaning.

In 2002 I qualified by examination as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and provide private breastfeeding consultations and classes to parents in their own homes, I also teach peer supporters, run a weekly breastfeeding drop in clinic and am seen on the ward at my local Maternity unit helping new couples with feeding. In 2007 I recertified for another 5 years, something that IBCLC's have to do every 5 years to ensure that their knowledge is kept up to date.

When my eldest son was a toddler I became a Registered childminder and have had the priviledge to look after many babies and children, I also trained with the PPA and helped as a playgroup assistant; I assisted at Girls Brigade and at cubs as 'Bagheera'. I have worked with many babies and children of all ages.

I provide Doula support for new families. Having a new baby is very exciting, but can also be very stressful if you are unsure of what to expect. It is important at this time you are confident that you have the emotional and physical support of somebody you trust. A doula can support you antenatally, during the birth and post natally whether your new baby is your first or fourth! Having had both a 'high intervention' birth and a subsequent 'low intervention' birth, together with my experience of breastfeeding and child development, I'm sure that you would feel confident with me as your supporter.

I have been providing training for over 20 years and am a qualified 'Active Trainer' and have completed a course in 'Instructional Techniques'. I provide workshops and study days to fit in alongside training days, and courses for doulas and breastfeeding helpers in small groups, and at venues to suit. I am very enthusiatic about my work which usually makes for interactive interesting ACTIVE training!

I have had some scary moments whilst making several appearances on national LIVE TV, several radio interviews and having featured articles in the Sunday Times - however I must add that although LIVE TV is scary - 'what you say is what you get', and no risk of taking words out of context!
