Welcome to UFit Food & Fitness

About Us

uFIT food and fitness is a health service that offers advice on diet and exercise to help you reach your optimum health and fitness goals. We are based in Central Scotland.

The food you eat and your levels of fitness can have a major impact on your wellbeing. Nutrition and exercise benefit not only your weight, but can have a profound impact on your mind and energy levels and significantly reduces your risk of heart attack, stroke and cancer.

uFIT is run by Dr Elaine Mulcahy. I am a fully qualified nutritional advisor and fitness instructor (REPS 2) and marathon runner, finishing in the top 15 women (under 35) at the Loch Ness marathon 2006 and winner of the Falkirk Race for Life 2006. I have a PhD in Bioengineering and spent many years studying the human brain and human movement and am fascinated by how nutrition and fitness effect both mind and body. I have written features on physical activity and brain health for the Irish Times, the Australian, Runner's World magazine and Australian Triathlete magazine, as well as other newspapers and websites.

uFOOD

The food you eat has a major impact on how you feel from day to day. It can also seriously impact your risk of a range of diseases from diabetes and heart disease to osteoporosis and psoriasis. Being overweight can also increase your risk of a lot of these conditions.

uFOOD will assess your current diet, weight, BMI and waist to hip ratio and identify areas where you can make some changes to benefit your overall health. We set realistic targets for you to aim for to help you reach your ideal weight, improve your mood and leave you feeling really good.

The focus is not on counting points or calories, but on focussing on a healthy diet containing plenty of fibre, water and good sources of protein.

After the consultation you will receive a report on your current diet and food charts to help you monitor the healthy changes you make.

uFITNESS

A small amount of exercise can have a big effect on your health. Just exercising for 30 minutes a few times a week can reduce your risk of dying from a heart attack by almost a half. Regular exercise will also help you to lose weight, lower your cholesterol and increase your energy levels.

uFITNESS offers a complete assessment of your current fitness levels including heart rate, cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility. We will also discuss obstacles, such as not enough time, that prevent you from exercising.

You do not need to spend hours pumping iron in the gym to improve your fitness goals. We will produce a manageable exercise plan that fits with your lifestyle and gradually improves your fitness.

You will then receive a full, detailed report of your current fitness status and a personalised four-week exercise programme designed to fit in to your lifestyle, with weekly targets and goals.
