A unique method of regaining balance, co-ordination and ease of movement and thought in everyday life

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander technique is a system that helps one become more aware of mind and body in all that we do in everyday life.

The Alexander technique enables us to reduce unnecessary tension and stress and regain balance, poise, efficiency and calm.

Roald Dahl wrote:
“The Alexander Principle works...I recommend it enthusiastically to anyone who has neck pains and back pains.”

An Alexander lesson will usually last between 30 and 45 minutes. It will take the form of a one to one lesson.

The teacher will guide the pupil with the use of voice and hands through ordinary everyday movements.

The pupil will become more aware of how he functions and can then begin to change any detrimental habits thus regaining poise, efficiency, mental and physical balance.

The Alexander Technique is generally beneficial but may be used for specific problems such as:
  • Back pains

  • Neck problems

  • Repetitive strain injuries

  • Breathing difficulties

  • Joint related problems

  • Headache and migraines

  • Fears, phobias and lack of confidence

  • Stage fright and other problems in the performance arts

  • General tension anxiety and pain

  • Tiredness

  • Depression
Aldous Huxley wrote:

“The Alexander technique gives us all the things we have been looking for in a system of physical education: relief from strain due to maladjustment, and constant improvement in physical and mental health. We cannot ask more from any system; nor, if we seriously desire to alter human beings in a desirable direction can we ask any less.”
