SERVICES

Welcome to Southwell Acupuncture Clinic

Traditional Five Element Acupuncture originated in China well over 2000 years ago and has been passed down through time from master to student through texts and practice.

Combined, they form an unbroken lineage which represents an astounding body of knowledge about the human being in health and illness.

Traditional acupuncture is a healing art and science, which teaches us how to see the entire human being in body mind and spirit.

How to recognize the process of health and illness and how to go about the restoration of lost health in an individual. Chinese philosophy says our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy: - Qi.

How does acupuncture work?

According to Chinese philosophy, all things in the universe manifest as the five elements known as Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. In humans these forces manifest in five different ways, five distinct emotions, five pairs of organs, five specific areas where we can detect our strengths and weaknesses.

Acupuncturists practice their art with a few fine needles, inserting them into points on the body. These points are located and join together in ‘channels’ or ‘meridians’ along which Qi flows.

The points used in treatment are carefully chosen by the practitioner to disperse any blockages and to bring the patient’s Qi back into balance. The more this balance is achieved, the healthier the patient becomes.

Treatment can be made more effective in certain cases with heating the point with a dried herb moxa. This is called “moxibustion”.

Who does it help?

Acupuncture is a safe treatment for all.

Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions.
These may include acute or chronic conditions; aches and pains, migraines; hormonal problems — PMS, pregnancy, menopause; stress, anxiety, life pressures, sleep problems, ME, or arthritic conditions. Also more general feelings of ill health such as nausea and low energy

Listing a full range of complaints that acupuncture can help with is beyond the scope of a short description.

Acupuncture is a preventative medicine, it strengthens the person’s constitution.

Acupuncture can be used very effectively alongside western medicine for both chronic and acute conditions, from pre conception to death.
