SERVICES

Welcome to Marlow & Wycombe Homeopathy

We focus entirely on the individual needs of our patients. Our highly experienced practitioners provide homeopathic treatment and ongoing support to treat short-term and long-term health problems, bringing balance to your overall health and well-being – naturally.

Patients with a wide range of conditions have benefited in many ways from visiting us. Because homeopathy treats the whole person it is a suitable form of medicine for people with most illnesses, such as arthritis, depression, migraines, ulcers, asthma, hay fever, skin problems, ear, nose and throat problems, gynaecological conditions, gastric complaints and so on.

Because homeopathy is a gentle form of medicine it is particularly suitable for the elderly and the very young as it lacks the side effects commonly associated with stronger medicines.

“The effect of homeopathy on my life has
been profound – helping with every day
ailments as well as helping me handle
more significant problems, like post natal
depression and hormonal imbalance – I’ve
never felt better.” Fiona Carthy, High Wycombe

Who are we?

We encourage teamwork through our ongoing programme of study days for members and associates that is designed to provide a forum for exchange of expertise as well as a place to keep abreast of the most recent developments in homeopathy.

We work together supportively to ensure that we can provide the best environment and services for our customers. All our practitioners are required to be registered with reputable professional bodies that require adherence to a Code of Ethics.

Free pre-consultation

If you are unsure whether homeopathic treatment is for you, simply wish to explore what is involved, or would like to get a feel for the clinic and to meet a practitioner, we offer a half hour free pre-consultation.

Take the opportunity to experience what happens in a homeopathic consultation; to explore whether homeopathic treatment is suitable for your particular complaint(s) or problem(s); to consider what it means to treat the whole person as opposed to just the symptoms.

You can book a free pre-consultation by telephone during working hours or by email. Just let Reception know your preferred practitioner, or they will allocate you to a practitioner depending on when is most convenient for you. The practitioners work at the clinic on specific days of the week.

Reception Hours

Reception is manned between 9am and 5pm Monday to Fridays. 9am - 1pm every Saturday.

Consultation Times

It is possible to have a consultation at any time within the hours 9am – 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am – 1pm Saturdays, depending on the availability of your practitioner.

Consultations - What's Involved?

Establishing good health involves treating everyone as an individual, so we take time to listen and understand thoroughly what is happening to each patient. First appointments are therefore an hour-and-a-half long, so a full health history can be taken. This is normally followed up with hour long appointments every four to six weeks until the patient is well. You can then come as frequently (or infrequently) as you like.

Support between appointments

During the course of your treatment you may wish to talk to your practitioner between appointments. This may be to ask questions about your treatment, prescription, or other health matters. We are dedicated to providing a complete health service for our patients and it is important to us that you can feel safe in the knowledge that support is on hand at all times.

To complete our service to patients an out-of-hours homeopathic emergency service is available. There is a nominal £5 fee charged for this service. Ring the clinic where you will be given the number and name of the emergency practitioner on the answerphone.

We encourage you to have a supply of remedies at home especially if several member of the family are having treatment. The clinic sells homeopathic first aid kits. In addition, remedy kits can be tailored to suit particular needs. Please speak to your practitioner if you would like to obtain one. The clinic also sells a small, select range of ancillary products that we have found helpful. A list of these products is available from the reception desk or from your practitioner. We will endeavour to get your remedies in the post on the day you request them, it may be difficult to do so if the remedies are requested after 3.00pm.

Book a consultation

Appointments are available during the day, the evening and at weekends (Saturday mornings) to fit in with your commitments. You can book an appointment by contacting the practice by telephone or email. For telephone bookings, remember to leave your name, telephone number and the times you are able to receive return calls (should you leave a message out-of-hours). For email bookings, please provide a telephone number and times of availability, should we need to contact you directly. The receptionist will also need to know your preferred choice of practitioner, or preferred day of the week and time of the day.

Frequently asked questions

How long is my treatment likely to last?
Homeopathic treatment is a process. In general, the longer someone has suffered from a condition, the longer it will take to treat. However we always expect you to experience some significant benefits quite quickly. Appointments are made at approximately monthly intervals in order to assess response to treatment. Your practitioner will encourage you to openly discuss your progress.

How do I contact my practitioner in between appointments?
If you have a query regarding your treatment please contact your practitioner by phoning the clinic, where you can either leave a message with the receptionist, or on the ansaphone. Please speak slowly and clearly and give your name, the name of your practitioner and your telephone number. We will try to return your call the same day if it is left by 4.30pm.

How do I take the remedy?
Potentised pills are best taken under the tongue. They should be allowed to dissolve for two minutes and then they may be crunched up and swallowed. Do not swallow them down with a drink and if possible avoid eating, drinking, smoking or cleaning the teeth for five to ten minutes before and after taking the remedy.

I forgot to take my remedy at the allotted time, what should I do?
Basically, you needn’t worry. Homeopathic remedies are used to provide a stimulus for your biological system to begin to rectify itself. If your practitioner has asked you to repeat the remedy within a specified period of time, the reasons for needing to do this will be such that taking your remedy a few hours later will just repeat the stimulus a little later than planned.

How should I store my remedies?
Somewhere cool and dark, away from anything with a strong smell.

The Practitioners
    Elizabeth Courtis MCH RSHom

In 1987 I helped set up the Marlow Homeopathic Clinic which has grown and is now Marlow Homeopathy. During this time I have run two busy practices, one here at Marlow and the other at the Natural Therapy Clinic in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

I have written and presented many courses including homeopathic first aid and most recently an assertiveness course in collaboration with Karen Sternhell. I have lectured at several homeopathic colleges and run workshops and tutorials for student homeopaths. Currently, as well as seeing patients, I supervise and work with homeopathy students.
Recently I attended two philosophical counselling courses gaining a recognition in this field. I intend to continue these studies as they usefully augment my homeopathic work.

Before studying as a homeopath I worked as a librarian running several professional libraries as well as a large medical library at Greenwich District Hospital in London.

I am married with three grown up children.

Available for appointments every Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, at Marlow Homeopathy

    Julia Lockwood Dip PHSH RSHom

I believe homeopathy is the most effective way someone can improve their health at a very deep and lasting level, and I was drawn to practice when my one-year old son was cured of all asthma symptoms. Nine years and two more sons later, I have qualified and become registered with the Society of Homeopaths, so I can pass on these huge benefits to other patients suffering from a range of chronic and acute conditions.

Apart from my studies and qualification last March, I was latterly chair of governors at Marlow C of E Infant school, I am a writer, and was a journalist before having children and moving to Marlow.

Available for appointments every Friday at Marlow Homeopathy

    Tim Lloyd LCPH

After a career as an Engineer Officer in the RAF, I qualified as a homeopathic practitioner in June 1996 and have been in fulltime practice since then.

I joined Marlow Homeopathy in December 1996. My other main role is as Vice-Principal of the College of Practical Homeopathy (based in Finchley) where I am one of the core lecture team.

I find the contrasting demands of my homoeopathy practice, my teaching and the supervision of motivated and enthusiastic students fulfilling, satisfying and very enjoyable. I have also been involved in the development and delivery of Management and Personal Development courses, as well as courses run by Marlow Homoeopathy.

Available for appointments every Thursday at Marlow Homeopathy

    Vicki Steedman MARH

I have been practising as a homeopath since I qualified in 1998 and I now practice at Marlow Homeopathy.

I initially became interested in homeopathy in 1993 after having an illness that couldn’t be cured by conventional medicine. The homeopathic treatment was so successful that I was inspired to study homeopathy and see if I could help others in the same way.

Since qualifying, I have completed three post graduate courses in homeopathy to expand my knowledge of both the remedies and homeopathic prescribing. I also prescribe flower essences and give some nutritional advice during the consultation if appropriate. I am a qualified Cranio Sacral Therapist - this is a wonderful addition to my homeopathic practice.

Available for appointments every Wednesday and Friday at Marlow Homeopathy

    Karen Sternhell MCH RSHom

I have been practising at Marlow Homeopathy since graduating from The College of Homeopathy in 1993. Before that, I was a management accountant with a multi-national company, changing career after having children.

I love practising a holistic therapy that treats people as individuals and not just a random collection of symptoms. Homeopathy involves listening and understanding each patient’s unique situation.

I enjoy writing and teaching homeopathic and lifestyle courses, such as the popular Homeopathic Assertiveness course in conjunction with Elizabeth Courtis. I also currently run a student low cost clinic in a hostel for the homeless. This offers homeopathic treatment to people for whom homeopathy would not otherwise be available.

I enjoy reading and studying to expand my knowledge of practising homeopathy. A recent short course in philosophical counselling was a challenging and enjoyable way of extending my knowledge of practice.

Available for appointments every Monday and Tuesday at Marlow Homeopathy
    Kay Willis LCPH MARH

My first contact with homeopathy was to have my 2 year old daughter successfully treated for asthma and my newborn daughter for colic.

Subsequently I watched my mother recover from recurring kidney infections and my sister-in-law from long standing hormonal problems. That was 18 years ago and it inspired me to become a homeopath.

I thoroughly enjoy homeopathy and spend time on continuing study as well as being involved in projects within the community.

Available for appointments at Marlow Homeopathy every Monday, also at Wycombe Homeopathy every Thursday and Saturday.

    Homeopathy and Reflexology

I qualified June 2004 From the Practical College, I completed my first two years at The Classical College, and I feel this gives me a good choice of Methods in which to practice.

I have been in the health profession since 1990 and have been treating patients in Aromatherapy and Advanced Reflexology. I believe that Reflexology and Homoeopathy can be beneficial to each other. They are both gentle and safe to use at the same time. They both work to increase energy in the patient, encouraging increased well being.

Available for appointments every Wednesday at Wycombe Homeopathy

    Louise Brooks-Usher, BSc(hons) Rshom
    Homeopathy and Reiki Healer

Whilst working as a community project worker I was drawn to Homeopathy.
I felt there had to be a non-toxic alternative to severe drug treatments that took into consideration all aspects of the individual person.

Since then I have worked with young disabled and elderly people and as mother of 2 I have also been a post natal supporter for the NCT. Prior to this I was also a horse riding instructor.

Since studying homeopathy at the Westminster University and qualifying in 2004 I have also been attuned to Reiki level 2 and intend to become a master. I am very interested in healing; all forms of energy, yoga and animals especially horses.

Available for appointments every Monday at Wycombe Homeopathy

Philippa Fibert. B.Ed (hons) cantab. R.S.Hom.

I am a qualified teacher and adviser in early years education and child development. I was drawn to homeopathy when I noticed increasing numbers of children with behavioural disorders. Looking for ways to help I began researching homeopathic methods, and completed the practitioner course in classical homeopathy with Purton House Homeopathic Centre.

As a mother of four, I have a particular understanding of the realities of a busy family life.

Available for appointments every Thursday at Wycombe Homeopathy

    Julia Overton LCPH RSHom ECBS
    Homeopathy and Bowen Technique

‘‘I’d always dabbled with homeopathy, using it to treat my own health problems. When looking for a career change it seemed the natural choice to take a Licentiate course at the College of Practical Homeopathy in London and I haven’t looked back.

I studied Homeopathy, which I find fascinating, for 4 years. The really great thing is that it was also a journey of huge self-discovery, personal change and growth. I discovered a burning passion for learning and am continuously improving my knowledge and skills, so I can help people. It is truly a privilege to treat people and help them to improve their health and realise their potential.

After qualifying in 2006 I completed a one year post graduate course with the Integrative College, and am a qualified Bowen Technique Practitioner.

Available for Homeopathic and Bowen Technique appointments every Tuesday and Saturday afternoons at Wycombe Homeopathy.
