What is the Alexander Technique?
As young children we all possessed the ability to move gracefully with ease but unfortunately, most of us lose this as we age.
Gradually, in response to the demands of everyday life, we unconsciously develop bad habits when using our body and become less co-ordinated. Perhaps we hunch over a computer screen or slump in front of the TV; maybe we use excessive muscular effort to carry out the lightest of tasks. Patterns of strain can build up and eventually we can begin to suffer from tension and pain.
The Alexander Technique is a method of exploring what you are actually doing in activity and at rest. It is not a treatment, but a learning process that allows you to become more aware of your habits.
As your awareness grows, you gain more conscious control over the way you use your body and can replace habits of tension with more useful ones leading to greater poise and vitality.
What are the benefits of the Technique?
