SERVICES

Welcome to Therapies at Home

Helen Sullivan - Complementary Therapist Glasgow, can provide Reiki, Indian Head Massage and Hand or Foot Reflexology to you in the comfort of your home or at the convenience of your workplace.*

I became interested in complementary therapies whilst struggling with stress at work and whilt undergoing fertility investigations. After trying various therapies and exercises, I came to realise that Pilates and Reflexology worked for me and was delighted to be a case study for a friend whilst she completed her reflexology diploma.

During this time I also realised that I could take control of my stressors and decided to apply for redundancy from my post with a major insurer. Fortune smiled on me and my husband Steve when we discovered we were expecting our first child, shortly after this decision was made.

Whilst my children were very young I knew that I could not return to a full-time office post and considered my options. Being in a unique position to do anything I wanted without major financial constraints was very liberating, and I settled to learning complementary therapies that I not only enjoy receiving and have benefitted from, but I also get a benefit from giving. I have detailed what happens in each treatment in case you have any questions, but please feel free to call me for more information or to book an appointment on 07502 093 406.

Indian Head Massage is a non-invasive massage of the scalp, neck and shoulders. Oil can be used to help activate and stimulate the nerve endings and break up tension in the tissue. Many clients find this a very satisfying and relaxing massage, as almost everyone holds tension in their head, neck and shoulders from being glued to the computer, watching television or just a result of poor posture.

This massage technique is based on the traditional grooming massage practicesed by Indian ladies over the last thousand years, in order to maintain the hairs beauty and delay greying. The technique was adjusted in the 1970's when the treatment was first taught in the UK to include massage in the upper back and shoulders which are more tense due to our Western lifestyle and culture.

Prior to your treatment, I will ask for details of your medical history and current lifestyle to ensure that Indian Head Massage is the correct treatment for you. This also allows me to tailor the treatment to your individual needs. You will then be asked to change into a towelling gown which ensures your modesty, whilst allowing me access to your back, shoulders and neck. I can use an unscented organic grapeseed oil, to facilitate the massage movements and enhance your relaxation. Initially I will warm the oil and begin the massage on your back working up and over the shoulders to the neck, and up into the hair. The massage will end with a soothing series of facial movements. If preferred the massage can be completed over clothes.

The massage focuses on pushing, kneading, rubbing and stroking the energy points of the shoulders, neck and head. Although the massage focuses on the upper body the entire body will be benefited. A relaxing Indian head massage treatment will last for one hour, although shorter sessions can be arranged.

Reflexology, or zone therapy, is the practice of stimulating points on the feet, in order to encourage a beneficial effect on some other parts of the body, or to try to improve general health. Reflexology is most commonly performed on the feet, although it can be performed on the hands where there are physical restraints, such as veruccas or fractures.

Practitioners believe the foot to be divided into a number of reflex zones corresponding to all zones of the energy of the body, and that applying pressure in the form of massage to "tight" or "gritty" areas of a person's foot will stimulate the corresponding part of the energy body and assist the self-healing process.

Prior to starting a treatment tI must ensure that the treatment is appropriate by taking a medical history, and asking questions about your lifestyle. This will also allow me to tailor the treatment to your individual needs. During the treatment you will sit on a reclining chair after removal of shoes and socks. I will cleanse your feet and apply cream to your feet and ankles prior to a gentle massage in order to help you relax . I will then begin the treatment stimulating reflex points on the feet, soothing and releasing tension, relaxing the body, and encouraging the elimination of toxins. Following the treatment I will provide advice which will help to encourage the cleansing process.

The word reiki means ‘universal life energy’ in Japanese, where this therapy originated at the turn of the century. Reiki is based on the premise that illness is caused by a disruption in the body’s energy field or life force. By using specially designed symbols and channelling energy, it is believed that the body can be filled with positive energy causing the disease-making negative energy to disappear.

Reiki heals by charging negatively affected parts of the energy field with positive energy. Energy fields in the body each have different vibratory levels and reiki practitioners use their hands to affect and hopefully rebalance these vibrations in the negatively affected part of the body.

Prior to a treatment I will ask some questions about your health, and prepare a massage couch for you to relax on, the treatment may be provided in a seated position if it is more comfortable to you. I will then place my hands in a sequence of positions above your head and body , working with the intention of your healing. A full treatment will last an hour, although shorter treatments can be arranged. Although personal experiences differ, some clients can feel an intense heat from my hands during treatment. Reiki can be used to relieve the symptoms of chronic illnesses such as anxiety, insomnia, back pain and arthritis, and it often produces long-term beneficial changes. Aside from treating physical, mental and emotional problems, most clients report that a reiki treatment feels wonderful, and promotes a sense of relaxation and well being. Generally reiki can’t do any harm because it is a form of non-invasive energy healing and will adjust itself to create the most appropriate effect for each individual person. However, although most people feel peaceful and relaxed after treatment, it can stir up emotions as part of the healing process. Some people also experience a healing reaction such as a headache or flulike symptoms, but any discomfort should be short-lived.

Prices are £25.00 for one hours Reiki, and £30.00 for all other treatments within the Glasgow and North Lanarkshire area.

* Workplace therapies can be arranged on a Corporate basis for a group of clients (discounts may be available dependent on the number of client and timing of treatment sessions, e.g. 16 clients concurrently, each receiving a 15 minute therapy each at £5.00 per person), or on an individual basis subject to your employers agreement.
