What is homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete system of healing which works on the principle of ‘like cures like’. This means that any substance which causes symptoms can also be used to relieve those symptoms. For instance, chopping onions can cause eyes and nose to run severely and Allium Cepa (the onion) can be used to treat colds and hay fever with those particular symptoms. The homeopathic prescription matches the symptoms of the remedy with the symptoms of the patient and causes a reaction in the patient. It is this reaction which cures the patient.

Who can benefit from homeopathy?

Homeopathy can be used by anyone of
any age for many physical and emotional complaints. Its non-toxic and non-addictive nature makes it suitable for treating children, the elderly, pregnant women, the weak and fragile as well as the more robust.

What can you expect from your first consultation?

Each patient is treated as an individual
and you will be asked about your current symptoms, personal and family medical history, general lifestyle, including dietary habits, and likes and dislikes. After your case has been thoroughly considered a remedy will be prescribed (usually in the form of pills), carefully selected on the
basis of the information you give.

How long will the treatment last?

Again this depends very much on the individual response. As a general rule symptoms experienced for some years will not disappear immediately, although some changes may be noticed quite quickly. More acute complaints are likely to respond to treatment more rapidly. The healing process works from the inside, and external symptoms, such as skin complaints, are often the last to clear. Some patience may be needed - remember that every case is different and no two patients are alike.

What about seeing a GP?

I recommend that you should maintain your relationship with your GP. Homeopathy has an alternative philosophy but by working together, the two systems of health care can provide complementary services.

Please let me know if you are currently being treated by your GP and if you are taking any other medication. It is important to note that you should always consult your GP before making changes to your conventional medication. If you and your GP wish, I will be happy to discuss your treatment with him/her.

Free 15 minute consultations are available if you would like to discuss how homeopathy can help you.

Short courses

I also offer short courses in homeopathic first aid, providing information about when and how self-help treatment may be appropriate.

Courses take place in the evenings and during the school day. Please contact me for joining details.

Sensitive clinical examinations

In the event that sensitive clinical examinations are necessary, it is my policy to ask patients to bring a chaperone with them to be present during such an examination.

Fees

£55 for initial consultation.
£40 for subsequent appointments.

Subsequent consultations are usually at monthly intervals, depending on the nature and severity of the symptoms. Fees include remedies and telephone consultations between monthly appointments, as necessary.

Please ask about special family, child and pensioner rates.
