SERVICES

Welcome to Guildford Yoga

Based in Surrey, GuildfordYoga offers regular weekly classes in central Guildford and Bramley village, for all – so whether you have practiced yoga for many years or if you are a complete beginner, feel free to come along.

All classes are 'drop-in' – so, you are free to come along to any class that suits you and you pay-as-you-go. There is no need to book or pay in advance and all equipment is supplied, so there is no need to buy anything before you start.

Yoga is non-competitive; everyone works to his or her own level, depending on how you are feeling on the day. There is no need to perform or achieve, rather yoga is about allowing you to 'let go' and re-discover the happiness of just 'being'. So, the classes provide a wonderful respite from the daily pressures of modern life.

The teacher, Luci Phipps, has trained in a range of yoga styles, over many years. Her teaching is broadly Iyengar, so the poses are physically challenging and the emphasis is on correct alignment of the spine and the limbs. She encourages her students to be aware of their own needs and to work appropriately. Most special requirements can be accommodated within the mixed ability classes (including pre and post-natal).

About Yoga

Yoga is a classical Indian discipline that makes you work for your health and maintain it. Although the practice of yoga is widespread today there is still a degree of misunderstanding about it. People think it involves, one the one extreme, contortionist gymnastics, and on the other, a key to instant relaxation and meditation. Yoga is neither of these. It is a systematic way for harmonious living and self-improvement, based on the principle that man is a complex entity of physical, mental and spiritual attributes.

Yoga is, among other things, a system of physical exercises that cover an enormous range of body movement and has an immense impact on the whole personality. It is a safe, regenerative form of exercise that builds a firm foundation of health. Practice leads to poise, self-confidence, awareness of one's capabilities and increased confidence. There is no age limit to improvement: thus, unlike many other physical activities, yoga is not merely for the supple or the young.
