Welcome to Healing the Whole You Acupuncture and Cosmetic Accupuncture

Good health is not just the absence of pain or disease.

Traditional acupuncture works to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing: physical, mental, emotional.

According to traditional Chinese philosophy, our health is dependent on the body’s motivating energy moving in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels beneath the skin. This energy is known as qi.

The flow of qi can be disturbed by any number of factors. These include emotional states such as anxiety, anger, or grief, as well as poor nutrition, hereditary factors, infections, and trauma. When the qi is unbalanced, illness may result.

Acupuncture works

Acupuncture is a tried and tested system of complementary medicine. The Chinese and other eastern cultures have been using acupuncture to restore, promote and maintain good health for thousands of years.
Nowadays more and more people are finding this long established therapy can offer an effective solution to all manner of today’s ills.

Acupuncture is now widely used and accepted all over the world and in the UK there are currently over 3000 qualified acupuncturists registered with the British Acupuncture Council as at January 2010.

What can acupuncture do for me?

Acupuncture is widely considered to be beneficial for a range of illnesses and symptoms, from clearly defined complaints such as headaches, vomiting, neck ache, and back and dental pain, through to more general feelings of ill health such as nausea or low energy.

Acupuncture is often used in the treatment of a variety of conditions and in conjunction with western medicine. Increasingly women are choosing to have acupuncture to support them throughout pregnancy, labour and after giving birth.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Gerda Ankenbauer-Spetch attended a post-graduate training course in Acupuncture with Radha Thambirajah, the author of the book "Cosmetic Acupuncture – A Traditional Chinese Medicine Approach to Cosmetic and Dermatological Problems". She is also a member of Cosmetic Acupuncture UK.

As the title of Radha's book suggests, Cosmetic Acupuncture is much more than just face lifting with acupuncture needles, although this is one of its main uses. Extra-fine needles, usually about 10 - 12 altogether, are inserted in the patient's face to lift and smooth fine and not-so-fine lines.

As one of Gerda's patients said, "I was a bit apprehensive about having needles in my face but I needn't have worried as it was painless. After just one treatment, the lines between my eyebrows and my crows' feet were visibly reduced. My skin felt much firmer and fresher and friends and family have commented that I am looking radiant. I am a convert to Cosmetic Acupuncture and I would recommend Gerda to anyone!"

Other methods uses include massaging a special gel into the skin of the face, thus smoothing out any the appearance of wrinkles and generally firming the skin.

Cosmetic Acupuncture can also be used to treat other conditions such as Acne, Cellulite, Dandruff, Eczema, Vitiligo, Varicose Ulcers, Alopecia and many more. Please contact Gerda for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your individual needs and devise a tailor-made treatment plan.
