Welcome to Violet Holistics

What is complementary therapy?

Complementary therapy uses Reflexology ,Aromatherapy and Holistic Body massage .As well as treating the whole body it can be used for treating a specific areas and includes the emotional and psychological parts as well as the physical problem areas.

Reflexology

In the 1930's an American woman called Eunice Ingham (A qualified physiotherapist ) realised that reflexes were located in the feet. She produced maps illustrating these locations.the foot maps she produced are still in use today and she called this work Reflexology.

How does it work?
  • by relieving stress and tension.
  • it has a relaxing effect through the sensory nerves to the brain asking the system to relax as well as by touch.
  • by improving circulation helping to release oxygen and nutriments to the body cells promoting repair and restoration.
  • by increasing blood supply to the feet.
  • helping to improve neural efficiency.
  • improving waste removal and elimination.
  • activating the body's ability to self heal.

Aromatherapy

in the 1920's Renee Gattefosse (a cosmetic chemist) in France commenced a scientific study of the therapeutic of essential oils. it was as a result of an accident whilst making fragrances (he burn his arm) he plunged it into the essential oil of lavender which was exceptionally healing to the skin and left no scarring .As a result he researched into the medicinal use of essential oils. It revealed that it is possible for essential oils to penetrate the skin and be carried by the blood and lymphatic system to the organs.

The term "Aromatherapy" was coined by Gattefosse and in 1950's a student of Gattefosse called Marguerite Maury introduced it to Britain. She developed his work to a more practical conclusion by combining specialised massage techniques with tailored essential oils to suit each individual person's physical and emotional needs.
