SERVICES

Welcome to Shiatsu in the Mountains

Experience professional Shiatsu treatment in the beautiful valley of Croesor.

Shiatsu in japanese literally means "finger pressure" and Shiatsu is sometimes called that, or even more often, acupressure. The character "shi" means "finger", but also "touch"; the character "atsu" means "pressure" but also "power". A better translation, more in keeping with the true nature of Shiatsu therapy might therefore be "the power of touch".

Shiatsu, in its present form and with that name is a relatively new therapy. It originated in Japan in the early 20th century.

However, Shiatsu is based on an ancient system of Chinese Medicine, the same one used in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbalism, for example. This system uses a concept of "Ki" ("Ch'i" or "Qi" in chinese). Ki can losely be translated as "energy". In its broadest sense, Ki is a universal energy, present anywhere in nature - in animate and inanimate objects.

Ki also has a more specific meaning of "that which animates matter". For an organism to be alive and to function well, Ki must flow well and be in balance.

Shiatsu can be helpful in an extremely wide range of problems:
  • backaches, headaches and other physical ailments
  • addictions such as overeating and smoking
  • general stress and tension,
  • anxiety, depression
  • or just that vague feeling that life could be more satisfying and fulfilling.

About me

I was born and educated in Yugoslavia, where I obtained a degree in Clinical Psychology.

I came to Britain in 1988 to study Shiatsu with Sonia Moriceau Sensei. She studied Shiatsu with the japanese master Wataru Ohashi. Ohashi was a student of the famous Shizuto Masunaga, the founder of Zen Shiatsu.

Sonia was also a meditation teacher, being one of the most senior students of the late Zen master John Garrie Roshi. After graduating I further studied Shiatsu with Bill Palmer. In 1988 I also started studying Buddhism and meditation with John Garrie Roshi.

My principal Buddhist teacher is currently Lama Shenpen Hookham of the Awakened Heart Sangha, where I am also a teacher in training. Study of psychology, Buddhism and meditation greatly influence my work as a Shiatsu practitioner.

My other influences include Process Work and Nonviolent Communication (see links).

I have been extremely fortunate, over the years, to meet many good teachers, and some exceptional ones. I have tried, and am still trying, to put into practice what they taught me.

As well as practising Shiatsu on an individual basis, I also conduct group demonstrations, lectures and workshops.

I live with my partner and our three gorgeous children in a beautiful valley in the heart of Snowdonia.
