SERVICES

Welcome to Caritas Therapy

My name is Harry Jenkins and I am a therapist offering counselling and psychotherapy in Penn and Tylers Green, near High Wycombe and Beaconsfield and only 20 minutes from Uxbridge. I have been practising as a psychotherapist and counsellor for more than ten years. I am registered with UKCP and a member of BACP, as well as having an MA in Psychotherapy.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling and psychotherapy both help with a range of psychological problems, but differ in important ways. I offer psychotherapy, which aims to offer deeper and wider change than counselling. I will help you deal with the suffering that your symptoms bring to you. But in addition, I will also consider how each symptom is attempting to express something important about your life. The symptom may show both an underlying problem and something of value trying to emerge into your life. As we work with these deeper matters, we will also be dealing with your symptoms.

Short or Long Term?

I offer both short term and long term work. You may choose either, or we can decide together. Short term is most suitable where you have a clearly defined problem and want to stick to dealing with that. The therapy is more focused and requires work from you between sessions. It may feel more intense. Longer term work is most suitable for less well defined problems, or where there are several problems that you want to deal with. It will also suit if you would rather a more relaxed pace which you can control. It will allow you to change at a deeper, more fundamental level.

My main approach is Psychosynthesis. However, for short term work I draw strongly on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) within a Psychosynthesis context.

Psychosynthesis

There are many different schools of psychotherapy and I was trained in Psychosynthesis. This means that I will view you not only as a person suffering from the problems that you bring, but also as an incarnated soul searching for meaning, purpose and value in life. I will help you live a life that is an authentic expression of who you are, learning from the past rather than being unconsciously driven by it.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It believes that by modifying the way we think, we can change our feelings and behaviours. I use it to explore thinking patterns, beliefs and habitual behaviours. By making these conscious, you can begin to change these, freeing yourself to a richer and more satisfying life.

Levels of development and change

I work at three distinct levels of development and change simultaneously: childhood, personal and transpersonal. The particular reasons that you come for therapy will decide the relative importance of each level and this can change over the course of the therapy.

Childhood events and the relational style of the family leave their mark. I draw upon the theoretical work of Freud, Jung and the British School of Object Relations among others to support my work at this level. Working together at this level allows you to understand your unconscious motivations, drives and desires arising from childhood and to be less driven by them. This allows you greater mastery of your life.
We will also work on questions of personal identity and the sense of self that each of us has and in particular how we manage our internal psychological landscape.

Finally, we will look at transpersonal questions such as meaning, purpose, life direction and spirituality.
There is space for all these levels in the therapy and nothing need be excluded.
