Welcome to Asklipeon Health

About Us

Asklipeon Health is owned and run by Lyndsey Stevenson who trained with the Western School of Massage and is a member of the Scottish Massage Therapists Organisation. Lyndsey holds Diplomas in all therapies offered and has been trained to a high standard.

Based in central Lanarkshire we provide our services to the whole of Lanarkshire and surrounding areas.

We aim to provide a high quality professional service offering various massage therapies which are tailored to the individual. We take a holistic approach to treatment which means that we not only treat the symptoms but aim to offer basic advice on how to improve your general health or ways in which to help your particular problem.

What is Asklipeon?

The word 'Asklipeon' comes from Greece. The name derives from an ancient building on the Greek island of Kos called the 'Asklepion' or 'Asklepeio' which was the first concept of a hospital. Here Hippocrates (the father of medicine) and others would tend to the sick and in ancient times treatment would often involve massage techniques or other complementary therapies.

The 'Asklepeio' was dedicated to the son of Apollo - Aesculapius who was the protector of health and medicine.

Services

We offer a select range of massage therapies. These are currently: Swedish, Sports & Remedial and On-site massage.

We are currently running a 'drop in' service from the Boathouse on selected days. This means that no appointment is needed and we are available to offer advice, carry out treatments and/or consultation or assessment of injuries etc. For days and times of the next drop in clinic please check the on-line calendar.

We are also available to provide on-site massage for corporate work and special events.*

What is Swedish Massage?

Swedish massage was developed by Per Henrik Ling, a fencing master, who after traveling to China bought back a number of massage techniques. Ling then arranged these different methods into what became known as 'The Swedish Movement Treatment' or 'The Ling System'.

Swedish massage includes techniques which help relieve congestion in the muscle tissues, break down adhesions and scar tissue, stimulate the nerves and aids lymphatic circulation and also promote the development and nutrition of out-of-tone muscles. Oil is used in this type of massage to enable the therapist to work the muscles and underlying tissues and enhance the whole massage experience.

What is Sports & Remedial Massage?

This type of massage treatment uses certain methods in order to help identify the possible cause of a particular problem and then incorporates swedish massage techniques along with various others such as mobilisations, stretching and soft tissue work. As with Swedish massage, oil is used throughout this kind of treatment and often the therapists work even deeper into the muscle tissues with some of the techniques.

A Sports and Remedial massage treatment follows a process which involves carrying out a full consultation and various tests to establish the extent of the particular problem or injury before going on to employ appropriate technques to treat the problem. The testing process is then repeated to check the progress made. Depending on the type and severity of the injury, it is probable that more than one treatment will be needed.

What is Seated Acupressure Massage?

Seated Acupressure massage uses various techniques in a sequence lasting 15-20mins and works by applying pressure to particular points of the body (similar to Acupuncture). Acupressure massage has it's origins in China and can be dated as far back as 7000 BC. The sequence practised today combines these ancient techniques with Shiatsu and also incorporates other massage techniques such as stretching and tapotement.

Acupressure Massage focuses on the upper body, concentrating on the head, neck, upper and lower back, shoulders, arms and hands; however the techniques can easily be transferred to the lower body.
