About MeI’ve worked as a physio for 18yrs, in private practice for 10yrs since having my 2 children.
More recently I set up my own practice in June 2005, renting rooms at Lakeland Gates in Brigham, & in Lifestyles Gym in Cockermouth. Business was been good resulting in the need to find larger premises. The opportunity arose to acquire Jubilee House in the centre of town and I had it converted specifically to meet the needs of a physio clinic, with the added convenience of on site parking. This means I can offer more appointment times and be more flexible with the time spent with patients. I will continue to use the Lifestyles gym for gait assessments on the treadmill, and later stage rehabilitation in preparation for return to sport. Individual exercise programs are set taking into consideration your individual needs and injury.
I’ve had years of experience assessing & treating back & neck complaints. Every physio’s bread ‘n butter. I also practice Acupuncture for pain relief. I find it a good addition to my hands on approach to treatment.
As I work within a small community I feel its import to give something back. I enjoy having children from the senior school on work experience & have also given advice to those preparing for interviews for university places.
I strongly feel back care and postural education are important. I have visited local schools to talk to the children about this subject, on a voluntary basis. I am also trained to carry out work station (computer DSE) assessments, a service I can offer to local companies, and advice I can give to my patients.
I would like to do more of this, believing that prevention is better than cure.
I also get great satisfaction from encouraging young people to be fit and healthy . I have worked with the county cricket squad on taking care of their backs, preparing their bodies for the strain of their sport.
As I keep fit and train for triathlon, swimming, cycling & running, I have a keen interest in sports injuries. I have attended several sports injury and biomechanics courses over the last few years & enjoy working with people to not only treat injuries but advise on safe return to their sport. I work closely with personal trainer Sam Ayers & gym members to encourage safe participation in training & sport.
For the last 4yrs I have also had the pleasure of been the physio for the local branch of the Parkinson’s disease Society.
I run a weekly class of either hydrotherapy (exercise in water) or a land class. We work on improving their fitness, balance, mobility and independence. They are great fun to work with & a fabulous support to each other.
I hope the new clinic will enable me to continue to develop my services. I am a dedicated and caring physio who has a very hands on practical approach to treatment. I attend courses regularly to keep up to date with research and the latest treatment techniques.
