Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can exhibit acutely after a trauma or have a delayed reaction, with symptoms only manifesting months later. PTSD is usually associated with or caused by situations that are extremely distressing and sometimes life-threatening. Symptoms of PTSD might include vivid flashbacks and dreams, feelings of detachment, decreased interest in activities, a feeling of hopelessness towards the future and hypersensitivity which manifests on physical and psychological levels. Concentration issues, sleeping issues, startling easily and exaggeratedly to things can also be symptoms of PTSD. Medication can be used to treat individuals with PTSD and cognitive behavioural therapy, stress management, hypnotherapy, cognitive therapy and exposure therapy are all useful treatment options for PTSD.
