Nightmares are dreams which can be extremely distressing or upsetting and will usually cause the person to wake up from sleep. Nightmares can be caused by anxiety, as a side-effect from certain medication, traumatic life events or stress. In serious cases, Nightmares can be treated with therapy. Night Terrors are common to children between the ages of three and 12. Night terrors are characterized by intense fear. Individuals may experience an extreme feeling of fear and crying, they may become difficult to waken and in some cases the person will have no memory of the event. Medication and psychotherapy are helpful in treating night terrors.
