Bikram yoga is usually conducted in a heated room. Classes are typically performed at temperatures of 37 degrees and the poses can be demanding. By practicing yoga in heat, your muscles become warm which makes movements freer. The increased heat promotes sweating which in yoga is a way for your body to purify itself.
Bikram Yoga classes run for 90 minutes and flows through series of poses which are all designed to work specific areas of the body. Classes begin and end with breathing exercises which are useful in eliminating toxins. Classes are designed to massage, stimulate and cleanse your body from the inside-out in a way that is designed to allow your body to detox and strengthen.
Bikram is accessible to people of all ages and abilities. It is important to find a class and teacher who you feel comfortable with and practices safely.
Be prepared with water, a towel, a yoga mat and suitable comfortable clothing.
