Welcome to Yourbirthright
So now you're excited. And a little apprehensive. You are on a journey filled with advice, stories, what ifs, checks, doubts, excitements. We are here to support and encourage you every step of the way in your amazing journey, because we know the impact that great support and a positive mindset can have on your baby's development and on your baby's birth. We offer antenatal classes focussing on the mind-body connection, and a doula service which specialises in the psychology of your birthing.
Do you want a natural birth? We are bombarded with images of labour as a medical and difficult event. During these classes, and/or with Mia as your doula, you will regain your faith in natural labour - and look forward to this potentially wonderful experience.
Have you had a previous caesarean section?
Our services can help you to towards a natural and normal delivery by helping you to stay calm and confident throughout your birthing. If you don't know why calm and confident is important for a natural birth, then these classes will make it clear.
Have you had a disappointing or difficult previous delivery?
Our classes maximise your chance of doing things differently this time, by helping you understand what all women need in body and mind, in order to have a gentle, natural and satisfying birth.
Do you prefer to be in control of things?
The techniques that you will learn put you in the driving seat. During the classes, you will be given the knowledge and skills to be calm and in control throughout the birth. That's why we say "have it your way..."
Does the thought of birthing scare you?
Relax. Knowledge is reassuring, and with our classes, we give you the knowlegde to not be frightened any more. On the contrary - look forward to this amazing opportunity of having your baby!!
What if I want an epidural?
That's okay. Remember - you have it your way. We say that whatever turn your birthing takes, you will be prepared. However, when it comes down to it, you will probably not choose an epidural after all, because the techniques you learn and the confidence you attain is good enough.
But I'm not sure about self-hypnosis.
Self-hypnosis is a fast track method for really relaxing. If you like to relax, you'll love self-hypnosis. If you don't like to relax, I suggest these classes before your baby arrives! You stay awake and fully in control throughout. When mums are labouring naturally, they kind of "go within" themselves, focussing on their body and shutting out the goings on around them. Self-hypnosis maximises nature's own way.
I'm not sure I believe it'll work for me.
We don't promise you your dream birth. No-one can do that. Neither do we promise an orgasmic birth (but it would be nice, wouldn't it?). What we do promise, is that this course wiwe can help you towards your best birth. Our courses are designed to increase your chances of feeling in control, having a drug free birth and a more satisfying birth.
What if it doesn't work? Will I have wasted my money?
These classes are educational as well as practical. You can't "unlearn" what you learn in class. You can't take away the relaxation and bonding that you create during your pregnancy. Take these classes as part of your preparation for birth, as you would any other antenatal class. If you get an ideal birth, that's great! If you don't then you know that you did your best to get your best birth. If your birth doesn't go the way you wanted it to, you will have the techniques to calm yourself through the upheaval, which will help with your processing and recovery afterwards. If the worst happens and you are left traumatised (this has never happened in our experience - despite the national estimate to be about 10% of women traumatised by their births) you are guaranteed one on one care from our practitioner who is a clinical psychologist with expertise in this area.
How do I know which class is best for me?
For a break-down of the differences between the classes, click here. If you have the time, the money, and you and the birthing partner can make it, we suggest you choose the "more comprehensive" HypnoBirthing class, which is a total birth preparation in itself. However, if time or money is an issue for you, or you feel taht you know a great deal about normal birth and childbirth preparation, then the Mindful Mamma class is perfect, and you can still be sure that the essentials neccessary for a calm birth will be covered in the one day.
- Do you want a satisfying and wonderful experience when seeing your baby for the first time?
- Are you unsure how you will react to seeing your partner in labour?
- Would you like some clarity about how you can be an integral and important part of the birth of your baby?
Our courses offer you this and more.
What you will learn
- What to expect during the labour
- How to be confident and informed when dealing with the medical staff - when to question, what to ask...and when it's time to let them take charge
- How to help your partner relax to ultimate depths using hypnotherapy techniques
- How to help your partner release her natural pain killing hormones
Until the last 50 years, having dads at the birth of a child was pretty much unheard of. Now, you are expected to be there. We don't presume that you will know what to do, or love being there. In fact, we believe that a little bit of preparation makes all the difference between a scary, unpleasant experience and an amazing, empowering experience. Like it or not, you do have a specific and necessary role as the birthing partner. We will give you clarity about what you can do to help create a rewarding experience for you, your partner and your baby. It really does make a difference to your partner's experience.
