‘The Bowen Technique’ & ‘Scenar Therapy’
Introducing for the first time the powerful combination of the most advanced hands on treatment; Bowen Therapy and the most technically advanced pain relieving devices available today; the Scenar therapy and Healing Blanket, bringing rapid and lasting relief to many worldwide. If you have back pain, you are not alone. It is one of the most common presentations to doctors every year and nearly everyone at some point in their lives will suffer back pain that interferes with work, routine daily activities or recreation. Treatment offered is usually in the form of painkillers, however at Therapy House we believe there is no substitute for hands on treatment, aiming to assist the body to heal itself. The body has a powerful ability to heal given the right instructions and time to do so and we believe that this new combination is a quick and powerful remedy for many sufferers. Our therapists are trained in one of the most effective soft tissue treatments available today – The Bowen Technique and in the use of the Scenar Device and TMB-01 Healing Blanket. Here we will explain the treatments individually. The technical part!
What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen involves making gentle non-invasive moves across very precise areas of muscles, ligaments, tendons and connective tissue aiming to carefully trigger particular nerve endings, creating a powerful releasing effect much like the power generated by a single droplet of water hitting the surface of a pond creating a powerful ripple. These nerve endings are involved with the tension of muscles which hold us in correct alignment. When this function is compromised by physical injury, poor posture, emotional injury or constant stress, symptoms often follow. A key and unique feature of Bowen is the short breaks during which the client is left resting to allow the body to absorb the gentle moves that have been performed. This gives the body time to respond and make the subtle and fine adjustments, which help to relieve tension, reduce pain, improve flexibility and initiate the healing process.
What is SCENAR?
SCENAR is an acronym for self-controlled energo-neuro adaptive regulation. It represents a revolutionary new approach which marries orthodox Western medical practice and electronic technology with the traditional knowledge of the Far East.
Its development is based on Russia’s extensive medical studies of the Bodies Adaptive Response (healing response). This is the manner in which the body/mind restores itself from insult and injury and regains relative health. A Russian team of doctors and scientists based at Sochi University and led by Alexander Karasev in the 1970s, received large Government Grants to develop genuine drug-free therapies for space travel. One of the outcomes of this research is a small electronic device, also called Scenar that has since undergone many transformations.
According to the Russian experience scenar is safe on all conditions. However there is one contraindication:

How it works
The Scenar device uses Biofeedback to enable the body to heal itself. Scenar therapy draws on conventional medicine as well as traditional Chinese medicine and centres on the concept that the human body is a finely tuned functional system continually maintaining its own self balance.
When this balance is disrupted due to trauma or dis-ease the Scenar Device can re-establish and reactivate the body's natural self-balancing capabilities. To achieve this the Scenar literally speaks the body's language! The impulses constantly change according to the response from the body at the exact moment of treatment. This allows a true bio-feedback dialogue to take place between the scenar device and the nervous system, resulting in stimulation of the A,B and C fibres below the skin - creating a cascade of neuropeptides amongst other healing compounds of the body’s internal pharmacy and opening a clear pathway direct to the point of pain or dysfunction. This massive response helps explain the effectiveness of Scenar therapy on the whole body.
The results are usually immediate and long lasting, with most people able to achieve a dramatic reduction in pain.
The effects of this change on chemistry will result in the treatment of the whole person. Hence old and often forgotten problems can be brought to the surface with treatment.
What conditions can Scenar treat?
In the UK, the British Standards Institute licenses the device for pain relief. However in Russia it has been authorized for all clinical use by the Health Ministry of Russia, Registered Certificate 29 199/40 5, 1986. Many Russian health practitioners currently use the device as their principal instrument of treatment. They have a vast wealth of information available from research papers, clinical reports and training manuals. It is used for most types of disorders and injuries; musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary and genital, neurological, ENT and skin conditions. It has also been found to be beneficial in disorders of the blood, disorders involving immune mechanisms, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disorders as well as stress and emotional disturbances.
The Scenar is further credited with vastly reducing recovery times. In Russian accident and emergency wards its ability to aid recovery is used to help those with burns, fractures, insect bites, allergic reactions, cardiac arrest, trauma, coma and many types of sports injuries.
Finally, trials in Russia have also realised Scenar’s usage for pain relief. Some patients have found more pain relief from the release of natural opioids after Scenar treatment than from administered opiates (painkillers).
The Treatment
Initially, the general state of health and the specific complaints will be assessed by questioning and physical examination. Prevailing symptoms and illness will be treated in the context of the general state of health. The treatment may take a variety of forms combining Bowen Therapy, Scenar and Healing Blanket. Each treatment combination may change according to the stage of recovery at that time and is decided by your therapist. All treatment sessions will last approx 50mins to 1 hr.
How does Scenar Therapy Feel?
While the Scenar device is run over the spine, abdomen or affected area a gentle tingling/prickling/stroking sensation will be felt.
Although some areas may not seem to directly relate to the obvious symptom, by treating these anomalies or ‘asymmetries’, the healing process will commence. This is very similar to the views of Chinese Acupuncture.
Patients having Scenar treatment may also need to take responsibility for their health themselves and may be advised to participate actively in the treatment and recovery process.
Patients generally experience an increase in energy, a more refreshing sleep and an improved sense of well-being.
How often will I need treatment?
Scenar action must be given more frequently at the beginning of the course of treatment e.g. once or twice a week. As one improves the frequency can be reduced.
A course of treatments will vary greatly from individual to individual, and will depend on such factors as the stage of the pathological process, the person's age, overall state of health, drug prescriptions, lifestyle, and so on.
Healing Medical Blanket
The Therapeutic Multilayer Medical Blanket TMB-01, is another state-of-the-art therapy also invented in Russia. It is made of polyurethane interwoven with shielding layers of metalized film.
The Healing Blanket is designed to shield the body from all external electromagnetic fields. It also reflects the body's own energies back on itself to rebalance the electrical field, essentially giving the body a turbo boost of its own energy to power up the healing and recovery process.
This safe, non-invasive therapy is used to rebalance and strengthen patients. It is effective in the treatment of a wide variety of problems.
Used in conjunction with Scenar therapy & Bowen therapy, the Therapeutic Multilayer Healing Blanket can correct the body’s imbalances; excess energy which is constantly leaving your body is capable of being re-absorbed into your deficient/weak areas in order to promote healing.
What else do I need to know?
During the treatment of chronic conditions old and forgotten symptoms may surface for a short spell. This is a good sign and it indicates that the healing process is thorough and taking care of many problems. Occasionally a healing crisis may occur (experienced as a complete lack of energy and malaise). The latter arises if the body is getting rid of toxic energy too rapidly. There are techniques that can be used with the Scenar to manage this.
It is also advisable to drink plenty of good quality water during the period of receiving a course of treatment to enhance the detoxification process while leading a healthy lifestyle.
Strictly avoid being under the influence of alcohol or any other intoxicating substances of any kind at all when attending treatment.
For best results it is advisable not to bathe, shower or wash for three hours before and after treatment and not to wear any makeup or skin moisturiser.
Also, do not engage in demanding, stressful or exciting activities during that period.
It may be necessary to shave an area of skin to ensure good communication between the device and the body.

E.F.T (Emotional Freedom Technique) (50 mins)
EFT centres around the profound effects of the body’s subtle energies using the theory that: “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system”.
