Welcome to Simply Pilates


Simply Pilates opened in 2003 and was the first fully equipped, dedicated Pilates studio to open in Bristol.

Employing only Pilates Foundation instructors, we offer a choice of 6 fully qualified instructors (mat and equipment) who also bring a wealth of other qualifications and experience to their Pilates practise.

Challenging enough for top sportsmen yet gentle enough to aid patients recovering from injuries or accidents, Pilates is a mind-body exercise discipline suitable for all ages, body types, limitations and injuries.

All private and small group classes take place in a purpose-designed, dedicated studio in the heart of Clifton.

Group mat classes (up to 10 clients) are located at Redland Girls School on Redland Court Road or at Clifton Library on Princess Victoria Street (check schedule for location of your class).


The Studio


Simply Pilates opened the first fully equipped, dedicated Pilates studio in Bristol.

Pilates equipment is quite different to the machines found in a gym. Springs are used to create tension rather than weights and frequently a lighter tension is harder to work with than a heavier one as the body has to use its own strength rather than 'rely' on a weight to take the strain.

Exercises are chosen on the equipment or on the mat to best strengthen the weaker muscle groups and stretch out the over used areas of the body, thus realigning and rebalancing the body.


The Sessions


Simply Pilates offers a variety of classes and levels - from complete beginner to advanced. Many people are not aware of the specific Pilates equipment that is available to challenge or modify exercises. This clearly cannot lend itself to large classes as clients need to be supervised to ensure the exercises are performed correctly.

Private Classes

One-to-one tuition with an instructor.

Please be aware that there may be other classes going on in the studio at the time of your class.

Minimum 24 hours notice for cancellations.

Semi Private Classes

This is a shared session with the same one or two other clients for an individual class or block of 5 classes.

Booking a block of 5 classes guarantees you the same time slot and instructor each week.

A minimum of 1 week's notice required for cancellation by one of more of the clients in the session , in order for the remaining client(s) to decide if they wish to pay for a different type of shared session.

Open Studio Classes

This is a shared session for up to 4 clients who are working independently under the close supervision of an instructor.

Since the session involves some independent exercise, clients must either have proven past experience of Pilates or have undertaken a certain number of Private Sessions at the studio first. This class offers maximum flexibility as clients can attend any number of the many sessions offered per week.

Minimum 24 hours notice for cancellations.

Please phone the studio if you are interested in day time Open Studio classes as these change frequently to meet needs. We are highly likely to be able to accommodate your preferred day or time.

Ante-Natal Classes

Ante Natal Classes are strictly for complete beginners and clients will not be accepted to join the class after 22 weeks of pregnancy. Classes can be taken right up to delivery and are tailored to each individual client to ensure they are exercising appropriately for their particular trimester and needs. The class is for a maximum of 4 clients.

Experienced Ante Natal clients may attend Open Studio classes or Private classes. If the ante natal class is full, non experienced clients may attend Private Classes and join the Ante Natal class when a space becomes available.

Due to the special discounted rate for these classes, they are bookable only in blocks of 5 consecutive classes, with any missed sessions being forfeited. Towards the end of pregnancy, classes may be paid for on a one-off basis.

Post-Natal Classes

The Post Natal Class is aimed at new clients, as well as clients who have completed a Simply Pilates Ante Natal Class. This is a gentle class, suitable for the period 6 weeks to 6 months post delivery only and is limited to one 8 week course per client. The class focuses on basic core msucle muscle inlcduing abdominal/pelvic floor tone and spinal flexibility.

The class is for a maximum 4 clients. All other experienced Post Natal clients can attend Open Studio classes at normal Open Studio rates. If the Post Natal class is full, new clients can attend Private Classes. Due to the special discounted rate for these classes, they are bookable only in a block of 8 consecutive classes, with any missed sessions being forfeited.
