What Is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu is the Japanese name for Acupressure. It shares its theoretical basis with acupuncture. The process of Shiatsu is as a hands-on treatment, using gentle pressures, stretches and articulations to bring about a relaxation response. Through this response there are beneficial effects of increased circulation and a balancing of the flow of energies in the body.
What Can Shiatsu Help?
People ask for Shiatsu to help with a wide range of specific issues; joint pains, muscle pains, stress patterns and many others. A skilled Shiatsu practitioner will find your pattern of imbalance and move energy to address that balance giving you access to more wellbeing. It is common to find issues other than the initial one and these can be addressed as part of the whole pattern. In this oriental model energy is distributed through a set of twelve pathways, which we called meridians. Each one relates to the different organs in the body and all are linked together to create a circuit.
What is the treatment like?
People often report the “most relaxing experience of my life”. It is carried out fully clothed normally on the floor on a mat called a futon. This is a traditional Japanese floor sleeping mat. Traditional Japanese lifestyle is focussed on floor level living. The Shiatsu treatment will be a process of pressing and stretching along the meridians, with some gentle movements of the joints. Sometimes homework in the form of exercise or dietary changes is given to enhance the speed of your process. Usually a treatment will last one hour.

Yoga
We offer a few different options in yoga. Beginners can take Hatha Yoga and for more advanced students we offer Pranayama, Raja Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Laya Yoga and Fire Yoga. We are registered with the Independent Yoga Network in the UK. All forms of Yoga benefit flexibility, balance and a peaceful state of mind. We hope to offer you a style that suits your priorities. Pregnancy Yoga is by appointment.

Wednesdays 6.30-7.30pm Beginners group
Tai Chi
We can offer instruction in Yang Style Tai Chi Hand form, Sword Form, Sabre Form and Fan Form. Small groups or individual lessons catered for. Instruction is from a solid basis of 18 years experience. Tai Chi can help you with balance issues and postural challenges, in addition to being a relaxing exercise.

Qi Gong
This is offered by appointment.
Pilates
5 different classes are offered on Tuesdays between 6-8pm, Wednesday mornings from 9.15 to 12.45 and Friday mornings 9.15-11.30.
Meditation
Basic meditation is taught within Yoga classes or one to one sessions by appointment.

Indian Head Massage and Swedish Relaxation Massage
These therapies are available on Fridays by appointment.
