SERVICES

WELCOME

My motto for therapy is that it is ‘vitamin for the soul’. Therapy helps you grow as a person to reach the balance and peace you long for. If you are searching for a personable, non-judgemental and professional therapist to help you effectively resolve your issues then please contact me!

I am a counselling psychologist chartered by the British Psychological Society and registered for practice by the Health and Care Professions Council. My work entails the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health issues of varying severity. These issues include different types of depression, anxiety disorders such as panic, OCD or PTSD, psychoses, personality disorders, sexual issues and addiction.

I practice at three different clinics where I work closely with a number of GPs and psychiatrists in the area to help people overcome their difficulties and fulfill their potential. I use a combination of talking treatments such as psychotherapy, humanistic counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, schema, systemic, integrative, cognitive analytic and mindfulness. I firmly believe in making the therapy as tailor made to you and your unique issues as possible. I aim to create an environment to enable you to feel safe to be open about what is troubling you. I believe that it is important to see people as a whole embedded in their circumstances and constantly influenced by their surroundings, and the different roles they play in life. The process to unravel this is the first step towards change and long lasting solutions.

I have over 13 years experience as a psychologist, working in a number of NHS and private settings in different areas ranging from acute, secondary and primary care psychology, forensic acute psychological care and rehabilitation as well as neuropsychological rehabilitation.

I look forward to meeting you!

ABOUT US

Dr Rajan works primarily in private practice, providing therapy services to clients from the general adult population. She treats people with depression, anxiety and many other general mental health issues. Prior to this Dr Rajan worked for Inmind Healthcare Group where she assessed and provided psychological treatment and support in a long term forensic rehabilitation setting to clients with different personality disorders, schizophrenia, drug and alcohol addiction who had committed serious offences. This role required a degree of therapeutic flexibility to help with enduring mental health issues.

In Oxleas Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, Dr Rajan worked as a psychologist providing individual cognitive analytic therapy in a secondary care setting to clients with personality disorder, depression, anxiety and PTSD where interpersonal relationships were central to the presentation. At the same NHS trust, she provided individual integrative therapy in a secondary care setting to clients with borderline personality disorder, depression and sexual issues.

At the same time, Dr Rajan worked at the Churchill London Clinic which was a private psychiatric hospital. She provided individual integrative and group therapy to clients with schizophrenia, bipolar depression and personality disorder in a low secure environment. She used aspects of cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic and person centred counselling, schema therapy and motivational interviewing techniques.

Prior to this, Dr Rajan worked at the South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust primarily providing individual CBT therapy in a secondary care setting to clients with anxiety, depression, OCD, panic attacks, phobias, bereavement and relationship issues and borderline personality disorder. She also conducted psychological and risk assessments. At North Essex Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust she facilitated groups on anxiety management and provided individual therapy using CBT techniques. She also conducted Psychometric assessments, provided reports and was involved in research, audit and staff training in an adult acute mental health setting.

At the Priory Healthcare, Dr Rajan worked in two residential homes for people with acquired brain injuries. She provided counselling and assessed the residents’ cognitive abilities and provided staff supervision. She also designed and implemented behavioural modification programmes to improve sexually or socially inappropriate behaviour.

Academic achievements

Dr Rajan did her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of East London. Her doctoral research covered the area of cross cultural therapy in counselling psychology focussing on how this manifests in the therapeutic encounter and how it is managed by practitioners. She used thematic discourse analysis as her research method: Her central finding pointed to a positive way forward where counselling psychologists need to cultivate a habit of honest reflection, soul searching and self-exploration to move towards more accepting and respectful practice in cross cultural therapy.

Dr Rajan completed two MSc degrees with the Open University, one on Psychological Research Methods and another one in general adult Psychology. She researched Facial Emotional Recognition in Mental Health using a Meta-analytic research model. Dr Rajan also completed a Humanistic Counselling Skills Certificate at West Kent College to broaden her therapeutic horizon. Prior to this, Dr Rajan completed a BSc Hons in Psychology with the Open University.

Before moving permanently to the UK in 1995, Dr Rajan worked as a teacher in an international language school in Hungary while completing her BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
