Welcome My name is Peter Scruby and I have been a qualified professional body worker for 11 years. I started as a Massage and Deep Tissue practitioner before moving onto the Eastern style treatments of Acupressure, Indian Head Massage and Shiatsu. I offer effective, relaxing treatments specifically tailored to your own needs and preferences in any of the following therapies.
What makes my treatments so unique is that I am able to draw on elements from all these techniques to create a powerful fusion, which enables me to treat the recipient more successfully. My aim is not only to help relieve specific conditions and restore good health but also enable my clients to maintain their well-being in order to prevent future problems developing. In addition I pride myself on offering a totally supportive and caring experience throughout your treatment. I am continuously developing my skills by undertaking further study as I think this is essential to being a successful therapist. My treatments are not an alternative to orthodox medicine but are complementary to it.
Please call me to discuss your specific requirements further and also to discuss any of my therapies in more detail.
Treatments
Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a gentle yet powerful 'hands-on' healing treatment for maintaining health originating in Japan. It is a deeply relaxing experience and regular Shiatsu sessions help to prevent the build up of stress as well as effectively helping to treat many conditions.
You don't have to possess a specific condition to benefit from Shiatsu. It is an amazing treatment to receive as a well deserved treat for your body, enabling it to deal better with the daily strains and stresses of life. Being an Oriental therapy, Shiatsu is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine where a vital energy, ('Ki' in Japanese) flows throughout our body in a series of channels called meridians.
For many different reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this then produces a symptom. As your Shiatsu practitioner I will assess your state of health and the symptoms you are experiencing and then tailor a treatment unique to your needs using a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow. These may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet on the meridians and when appropriate more dynamic rotations and stretches.
As the Ki starts flowing the symptoms you have experienced due to your stagnant energy flow will gradually improve. The beauty of Shiatsu is that it works on the individual as a complete being, not just the physical body but also on the emotional and mental level. Shiatsu treatments are given on a floor level futon or chair and the client stays fully clothed throughout.
Deep Tissue Massage
When your muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients. This can lead to inflammation and a build up of toxins which leaves you feeling tired and achy. A deep tissue massage helps to release these toxins, thereby encouraging the circulation of fresh blood and oxygen and easing muscle tension.
This is a full body massage carried out on a table and is especially effective for releasing tension in specific muscles; for example in the lower back which can result in better mobility and posture. It can also be combined with elements of Shiatsu and Indian Head Massage to provide a powerful and revitalising whole-body experience.
Indian Head Massage
This type of massage uses traditional Indian methods, combined with more classical massage techniques over the head, neck, shoulders and if desired, the arms and face. It is carried out fully clothed on a chair (no oils) and is particularly effective for relieving tension in the head and neck, leaving the recipient feeling calm, but energised.
Seated Acupressure Massage
This massage is based on the traditional Japanese Acupressure technique called Amna. It is similar in concept to Acupuncture, though instead of needles used to stimulate your energy points, I use my hands in a specific sequence of movements to improve energy flow. My massage is unique as it also includes elements of Shiatsu and if so desired Indian Head Massage. It is carried out on a state-of-the-art ergonomic chair, fully clothed and without oils. It is a powerful massage focussing on the back, shoulders, neck, arms, hands and head, leaving you invigorated, energised yet relaxed and de-stressed. It is also effective in releasing muscular tension, for example massaging the shoulders and neck can alleviate pressure in the head.
Pelvic Correction
I specialise in body alignment, focusing on pelvic correction. Through my years of practise I have become aware that many people's pelvises are out of alignment. Correcting the pelvis using specific techniques, can not only bring immediate positive results, but also allows my treatments to be more effective. Additionally, I can provide essential exercises in order to maintain the aligned pelvis. Correcting the pelvis can be a treatment on its own, incorporating Shiatsu and Massage, or used in conjunction where needed with a Shiatsu treatment.
Work Station Ergonomics
I am a qualified workstation ergonomic assessor trained by RoSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents). I can come to your work place or home to carry out a thorough assessment of your working environment. This will include advice on the correct posture and positioning at your workstation as well as the ideal set up of your chair, desk and all relevant equipment. These improvements will minimise the strain on your body and create a more healthy working environment. In order to maintain this I will also teach you some simple and effective stretches which can be performed at your desk. Following the completion of the assessments a report detailing any further actions required will be provided. Apart from the benefits in health and wellbeing for the employee the completion of this assessment has been a legal requirement since 1993. I am also able to conduct the assessments over the telephone.
