What is shiatsu massage and how can it support your health?
Shiatsu is a holistic bodywork therapy that originates in Japan. It is based on similar principles to acupuncture but uses supportive touch, acupressure points, rotations and stretches rather than needles.

Shiatsu aims to rebalance your body's energy to promote wellbeing and support good health. This can be a good antidote to the rush of city life, and the stresses of everyday living.

the primary aim in any treatment is to create a deep sense of relaxation. This is to help your body switch from the ‘fight or flight’ mode associated with the sympathetic nervous system, to the more meditative state of the parasympathetic system in which your breath naturally deepens, muscles relax, improving circulation and the function of the body system as a whole.

What can shiatsu help with?
There is a growing body of research that shows shiatsu can be effective in the treatment of:

  • physical symptoms
  • wellbeing
  • stress
  • energy levels
  • lifestyle choices

Some clients come with specific issues they wish to address, others to support and maintain their health. Each treatment is tailored to your aims and informed by a detailed history of your health.

What can you expect from the treatment?
Generally shiatsu takes place on a futon but is very adaptable. You remain fully clothed and no oils or needles are used. After the treatment some clients describe feeling less 'in their head' more aware of their body and 'connected up'.

Why choose shiatsu with Pam Marshall
I am a qualified Shiatsu Practitioner and member of the Shiatsu Society. My training was on the three-year course at the Shiatsu College, London. I’m registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) endorsed by the NHS.

I have a down-to-earth approach to health and am interested in finding the right approach that fits the needs and lifestyle of my clients. My initial interest in shiatsu and chinese medicine came
whilst recovering from a repetitive strain injury from too much computer work. I became interested in the way seemingly unconnected symptoms linked up in a holistic approach - and became hooked!
