ACT (Animal Communication Therapy)
Tension and relaxation is natural, just like night and day, the inner and the outer. Our senses are stimulated daily through TV, radio, computer, mobile phones etc. Which may create permanent stress and possible consequences, like back/neck problems, insomnia or heart attacks. Since these demands are unlikely to diminish we need to find new ways of being with ourselves and our stress.
Life moves at such a fast pace and many demands are placed on us by work and our personal lives, we often take our health for granted and we do not listen to our bodies. Give your body a treat, help to restore balance to you body and mind, ease physical symptoms with a gentle, relaxing treatment.
Your health and well being is important to me.

Ceramic exhibition at LANSDOWN GALLERY, STROUD
"LETS FACE THE MUSIC..."
16th - 27th April 2013
Join us for a Ceramic exhibition by Millie Wood Swanepoel.
MASKS & CEREMONIAL LYRES
It doesn’t matter where you are, somehow masks and music go together!
All over the world, masks are used in a variety of ways – at carnivals, ceremonial dances or rituals, even robberies.
Masked balls are very popular - for pleasure or intrigue. My trips to Venice and Japan made a huge impression on me and with my African background; my masks have become a melting pot of my personal expression and understanding of masks. A mask is almost a form of camouflage, which animals are very adept at using and there is our link to the animal kingdom again. Animals provide a context for our interaction and behaviour. They remain part of our lives though often unseen and not thought of.
We wear mask in different ways, most of us use them in our daily lives. It could be the make up we put on…. or the clothes we wear…or our body language
We also have an inner mask that is our secret, seldom shown to the outside world.
LYRES
One of the many heroes of the ancient Greeks was Hermes – son of the god Zeus, guardian of travelers and the god of science and invention. A classic myth recounts the tale of how the young Hermes stole some prized cattle right from under the godly nose of Apollo. On the trip home he invented the lyre by attaching three cow-gut strings to a bow. He stretched a piece of hide over an empty turtle shell and passed the bow through the shell. Hermes was caught with the cattle, but began to sing, accompanying himself on his new instrument. The songs just happen to praize Apollo’s countless virtues, and the god of music was impressed. In fact, he traded all his livestock for Herme’s lyre.
When Apollo was challenged to do battle with Marsyas, who was playing a mere flute, Apollo counter attacked with his lyre. He devastated his enemy, thus establishing the superiority of string over woodwinds for all time. The instrument was to remain with Apollo throughout the rest of eternity.
Such is the power and fascination of the stringed instrument, now how can I as a mere mortal resist the voluptuous curves, the sensuous opening and the vibrating rhythm of the strings of lyre, violin, guitar.
My masks… my lyres? Well, come to the exhibition and see for yourself.
I will be at the exhibition daily, come in for a chat.
CranioSacral Therapy
A non invasive, non manipulative treatment option for stress, injuries, anxiety, anger management, bereavement, insomnia, trauma and autism.
All life needs movement to remain healthy. Without movement we become sick. Tissues waste away, cells clog up with toxins. As well as external movement, we express motion within us. Our bodies are full of rhythms and currents. The heart, lungs and intestines rhythmically expand and contract to function properly. Another subtle pulsation underlies these more obvious rhythms. It emerges from the core of the body; and is expressed as an inherent fluctuation of the Cerebrospinal Fluid, which bathes the Central Nervous System. The bones of the Cranium and the Sacrum, at the base of the spine, move to accommodate this fluctuation. Hence it is known as CranioSacral Motion.
CranioSacral Motion can be felt as a subtle tide like rhythm throughout the whole body. Every cell pulsates as it expresses the CranioSacral Motion.
Freely mobile CranioSacral Motion is essential to the health of all the other systems of the body and to our physical, mental and emotional well being.
CST is a taught technique that engages in co-operative motion with the client's body to express where problematic areas/patterns are. It triggers held patterns to transform/release and self-repair. Craniosacral therapy is attracting interest for its gentle yet effective approach, working with the body's natural capacity to self-repair.
CST and you
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) works with the cellular memory of the body's tissues and fluids. Gentle hand contact encourages the body to enter a corrective phase towards balance and harmony, reorganising and realigning the body's systems at its own pace and ablility.
The therapist listens, via their hands, to identify and treat physical, mental and emotional pain and tension patterns in the body. These findings show that every cell in a healthy body expresses rythmic movement which is fundamental to life.
CST supports other forms of treatment both conventional and complemntary, and may assist to reduce negative side effects of medication or medical treatment..
This therapy may be a preventative complimentary treatment option before patterns become chronic. It can assist the body to deal with pre and post opeative trauma.
What happens during treatment
During treatment, you will usually lie fully clothed on a treatment table, and experience the light touch of the therapist's hands. You may feel a deep sense of relaxation, and may possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsation or other sensations. You may have a physical or emotional response to the treatment. Possiblilities will be discussed during your consultaion.
Treatments usually last 45 minutes, most chronic conditions benefit from a course of treatment usually weekly or fortnightly. Your treatment options will be discussed at you initial consultation, however most people usually feel benefit and relaxed after one treatment.
Mother, babies and children - One of the therapy's most appreciated qualities is its capacity to resovle problems and experiences by mothers and babies during and after birth.
- Working with mothers and babies in the Craniosacral context is a privilege, particularly since it can have such profoundly beneficial effect so early in life.
- By restoring imbalances before they become chronically anchored, Craniosacral therapyi enhances healthy growth and future development. This paves the way for greater self-esteem throughout childhood and later life
- I have been working with children and adults with autism with some remarkable results
Adults - There has been a focus on my working with clients who have experienced trauma, this includes mental, physical, emotional, pre & post operative and dental.
- What is fascinating about working in this way is how people with similiar conditions are often drawn to my practice at the same time.
- I believe the mind and body are so closely linked that whatever is done to one will have an effect on the other. Many of our body functions such as digestion, breathing and circulation may improve with Craniosacral therapy . Mentally and physically you may feel sharper, more aware, relaxed, calm and alert.
The common theme of all my therapies is to empower people to achieve their own wellbeing. Supporting them so that they are able to take responsibility for their own health. RCST is compimentary to medical practice .
About Millie
I was born and grew up in Africa. I trained and worked in London as an artist and art teacher/lecturer for many years. A fall down the stairs in my studio landed me in A & E – resulting in stitches and an inability to sit comfortably and feeling traumatized: a friendly midwife suggested Craniosacral Therapy and it worked! I was inspired by this gentle approach to well being and studied with the Institute of Craniosacral Studies in the Cotswolds. I undertake regular Credited Personal Development courses to be a Registered Craniosacral Therapist with the Association (CSTA).
I have been working with autistic children and adults with good results. Also close to my heart is child care, special needs and children with learning difficulties.
I have a keen interest in the well being of adults, pregnant woman, infants and children. I am particularly interested in people who have experienced trauma –birth, physical and/or stress related chronic long term conditions, spinal alignment and spots injuries with a goal to supporting people in their journey to general well being.
While studying meditation I was introduced into Reiki. When, after a scan, it was suggested by my doctor to have my gall bladder removed. I refused and opted for an alternative solution, a gallbladder flush, Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy, not all at the same time! I still have my gallbladder. I have been working with Reiki since 2002. I am a full insured member of the Reiki Association.
Reiki is relaxing and energising. It will work on the most important issue first and gradually progress through until natural balance is restored to the body. In cases of terminal illness, a sense of peace and acceptance is often gained during the time remaining
Reiki
Usui Shiki Ryoho
Pursuing a sense of well being, balance and harmony
Reiki continues to be a wonderful part of my practice and one that really benefits people experiencing the stress and anxiety of modern day living, dealing with illness or bereavemant.
Reiki was developed by Dr Miko Usui 1865-1926 who, after many years of study, discovered a way of accessing and using healing energy and passing on the ability to others.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural hands-on therapy using 'universal life energy'.
The first syllable 'rei' means wisdom or knowledge.
The second syllable 'ki' is the vital life force energy within and around all living things.
Reiki works with this vital force, much like acupressure, acupuncture, tai chi and yoga does but using its own unique methods.
'Ki' is channelled through the practitioner's hands into the client. It is more than a physical therapy, it is a holistic system of balancing and harmonising all aspects of the person - mind, body, emotion and well-being.
Reiki supports other treatments both conventional and complementary. It can often assist in reducing negative side-effects of medical treatment and medication.
What do people feel during treatments?
Each person experiences a Reiki treatment differently, depending on his or her individual needs at the time.
Often people feel a deep sense of relaxation and peace during a session. some may become aware of heat, tingling, pulsation or other sensations, whilst other may have a physical or emotional reaction, indicating that the body's healing processes are working and balance is being restored to the system.
Conditions I have worked with
During Pregnancy
Reiki is wonderful for pregnant women. It helps ease tensions in the body, relaxing the mother, and greatly benefiting the unborn child. It may help expecting mother feel more connected and in touch with their babies.
For Babies & Children
Children usually love Reiki and often respond very quickly to it. Treatments tend to be shorter than they would be for an adult.
For Mental and Emotional Imbalance
Emotional problems like anger, grief, anxiety, depression and fear respond well to Reiki, as do compulsive and addictive behaviour patterns. Reiki could be helpful in cases of drug and alcohol dependency.
Stress, Tension and Fatigue
Reiki works well on migraines, sleeping disorders; anxiety and high blood pressure that may be stress related conditions.
Accidents, Operations and Trauma
Reiki supports the body's natural healing processes, encouraging recovery from accidents, operations or traumatic experiences.
Pain
Reiki may relieve acute pain. Chronic, more deep-seated conditions may respond well but may need a series of consecutive treatments to get to the root of the problem.
At the end of a persons life
In the case of terminal illness there may not be enough time to reverse the process of the disease. In such cases, Reiki may help enhance the quality of time left and bring peace and acceptance at the end of person's life.
Acknowledging Lucy Patterson & Tripuri Dunne
A Reiki Treatment
For treatment, the client will usually lie fully clothed on a treatment table, and experience the light touch of the practitioner's hands.
The Reiki practitioner places their hands in a series of non-invasive positions covering the client's body. Each hand position is held for several minutes. The whole person is treated, not just isolated areas unless there is a chronic need.
Treatments usually last 1 hour 15 minutes, most chronic conditions benefit from a course of 2-4 consecutive treatments. Usually treatments are weekly or fortnightly. Your treatment options will be discussed at your intitial consultation, however most people usually feel benefit and relaxed after one treatment.
Gakkai Usui Shiki Ryoho
Reiki massage where the client remains fully clothed and is encouraged to quiten the mind with a short meditation. 1 hour or 30 minute sessions available
Excercise is important for the body, relaxation for the mind, connecting with something greater than self is important for the spirit.
How will it benefit you?
It is never too late or too early to begin to care about your health and well being.
1. It relaxes an over anxious mind. so you may feel more relaxed
mentally and physically..
2. Gakkai works by relaxing muscular tension that builds up to cause
more serious symptoms. The hand stroking helps to simply soothe
it away.
3. It concentrates on areas where tension is stored. It uses gentle long
strokes as these are the best tension busters
4. Gakkai is geared to the individual's energy need, it seems to
penetrate deeply, seems more relevant to them and therefore
more profound and liberating.
5. As there is less time for leisure, hobbies and sports, Gakkai is an
important and simple way to relax, feel less tense and be healthier
and happier through out life.
Gakkai baby massage
The loving touch of baby massage is benificial in many ways. To a baby touch is like talk and there is much verbal and non verbal communication during Gakkai baby massage. This communication helps bonding between parent and baby and will lessen stress in your baby and yourself. This can lead to improved digestion, helping relieve constipation, gas and colic symptoms.
Your baby develops mind/body awareness and coordination as well as feeling loved, respected and secure.
Gakkai baby massage enables you to become more receptive to your baby. When you are regularly massaging your baby, you are more likely to notice s sudden change in your baby's physical condition and be more aware of your baby's non verbal cues.
Positive touch communicates love, safety and security to your baby and growing child.
Please wear comfortable, light clothing. NB shoes are not to be worn in the room, please bring slippers if necessary.

About Millie and ACT
I believe I have always communicated with animals, as I little girl I was aware of animals feelings. I was born in Africa, grew up on a farm in Zimbabwe. It was a life filled with animals, domestic and wild.
Respect for the environment and all animals, including slithery ones, creepy crawlies was instilled at a young age. There was an awareness of the cycle of life that needed to be respected. I admired, came to understand and appreciate animals for their individuality.
When I picked up an ACT leaflet, I was excited, kindred spirits at last. What a wonderful journey it has been. Sometimes sad, frustrating, but mostly uplifting, fun, laced with humour.
I passionately believe that with more awareness we can make a difference to the way animals and humans share their lives and the environment.
I am a fully insured independant Animal Communicator
I will respone to any queries you have as soon as I can by phone or email.
What is Animal Communication?
Animal Communication is a language of feelings rather than a language of words. It is one of the most natural forms of communication. Every thought that we or our animals have creates a specific feeling. Sharing these feelings opens a world where we can become closer to animals and help them on physical, emotional and spiritual levels.
We share our thoughts daily with our animals Have you notice when you think of taking the dog for a walk. It is already waiting at the door?
If you are thinking of taking the cat to the vet, they are nowhere to be found.
Working from a place of stillness and awareness, the Communication allows space and time for the animal and human to express their needs or purpose to create a change and an understanding in the relationship
Animal Communication is an interpretation from the animal's perspective, which you as the decision-maker have to take at face value.
Animals also benefit and respond to 'hand on' Craniosacral therapy and Reiki.
Millie has a keen interest in the well being of animals and their relationship with humans.
She is particularly interested in working with animals that have experienced trauma, physical and/or stress related
How does it work?
Phone consultations
Millie makes a connection using a photo of your animal before your consultation. A photo is a device to help start the dialogue. After sharing the information with you, the dialogue between you, your animal and Millie begins. The aim is to find a way forward for both the animal and the human to express their needs or purpose...
Home visits
Millie spends a quiet moment connecting with the animal, and then works with both the animal and the human to get an understanding of the relationship and help resolve the issue.
Testimonial
"To who it may concern. I would like to make a statement that Millie Wood Swanepoel helped our 'baby' ferret to settle down, become much calmer and stop biting everyone that picked her up. She has settled into being a lively happy young ferret with a much move relaxed body. Well done Millie." Marianne, London
