SERVICES
Acupuncture is a part of Chinese medicine, which is an entire health system. This means that it can help a wide range of problems from emotional to physical and acute to chronic.

Some of the problems that people have acupuncture for are:

  • Allergies such as eczema, hay fever etc....
  • Digestive disorders including diarrhoea, constipation, IBS, colitis etc...
  • Emotional problems including anger, anxiety, depression, grief, nervous breakdown etc....
  • Eye/ear/nose & throat disorders
  • Fertility for both men and women
  • Headaches, migraines and associates symptoms
  • High/low blood pressure
  • Joint/mobility problems such as arthritis
  • Menstrual problems - pain, irregular cycle,
  • PMS, breast pain, distension etc...
  • Pain including sciatica, neck, back, shoulder, arm, leg, knee and hip pain
  • Respiratory problems including asthma, bronchitis, and the common cold
  • Repeat illness such as tonsillitis, eye/ear infections
  • Urinary problems
  • Weight Loss

Acupuncture can also be used as a supportive treatment, for example it may be used by:

Cancer patients to help relieve pain, boost energy and to sooth the mental/emotional symptoms that inevitably accompany a major illness.

Pregnant women to help ease morning sickness, increase energy levels and easy back pain.

Busy people to help with the stresses and strains of modern living, such as lower enery levels, bad digestion, problems sleeping (not being able to fall asleep, stay asleep, not feeling rested after sleep, waking up early and restless sleep), reduced sex drive and feeling irritable/moody/stressed/emotional.

Treatment

After acupuncture people commonly find they have a calm, focused mental state, and many describe the effects of treatment as relaxing, revitalizing and energizing.

It is a holistic therapy, where each individual receives a personally tailored treatment, which is why your first visit can take up to 1.5 hours.

What happens in a typical session?
Consultation - We ask a lot of questions, some of which may seem irrelevant to your problem. This is because Chinese medicine looks at the body as a whole where everything is connected. As an acupuncturist, I try to find the cause and affect relationship in order to tackle no only the symptoms that you are suffering from, but also to try to prevent it from reoccurring in the future.

Having Acupuncture
I will choose a selection of acupuncture points that are specific to you and your problem, giving you a unique treatment tailored to your needs.

Enjoying Acupuncture:
I will leave you alone for up to 20 minutes, so that you can relax and enjoy.

Amount and Frequency of Treatments Needed:
As every person is different, it is difficult to estimate how many treatments a person will need, however, the general rule is that the longer you have had a problem, the longer it will take to heal.

About Lucy

I qualified in 2007 from Lincoln University with a first class Bachelor of Science honors degree in Acupuncture

I then went on to China to further my studies and worked in 3 different hospitals in Beijing. Since then I have set up my own clinics in Guatemala and Honduras before returning to the UK.

I am passionate about what I do. Acupuncture never ceases to amaze me with its capacity to not only heal people, but to change their world. Helping people get better is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, and acupuncture is the most effective therapy that I've ever come across.

Testimonials
I have regular (monthly) migraines since I was 6 yrs old. This year (2009) I had eight sessions with Lucy and in the four months since we began the treatment, I have not had one single attack. I feel very confident that either she has cleared my symptoms completely, or lessened them to a much more manageable level.

Lucy gave me a course of approx. 8 acupuncture sessions before and during the hayfever season. My hayfever is really bad from beginning of June for approximately 8 weeks, during which time I suffer badly from the most terribly itchy eyes, runny nose and difficulty breathing. At the onset of the treatment I did not really feel any different, the treatments wet-c very thoroughly given with Lucy tweeking the needles to make sure the points were being activated correctly. nothing was that painful and after each session I was amazed at how good I felt, totally relaxed and a great feeling of well—being.

In about the middle of June 1 suddenly realised that I was not having the usual problems with my eyes, where I could not stop myself from rubbing them with the result that I looked like I had been beaten up. my nose was not a continual stream, although I (lid have to blow it a bit more frequently than I usually do, I (lid not feel that overwhelming tiredness which is so debilitating and above all I did not have any shortness of breath which made me reach for the inhaler.

This was the first time since getting hayfever at the age of 27 that I had had a year off tablets, eye drops. nasal spray and inhalers. I actually enjoyed the summer and being outside, which is important to me as I have a (log which needs exercise every day. The last couple of years Lucy has been away practicing overseas, but I have already booked my sessions of treatment for this year, so that I can have yet another year off the hayfever symptoms and the horrid drugs, which have side effects I don’t like to think about.
It has been very interesting for me to note that in the two years that I did not have acupuncture, I did not need an inhaler or nasal spray but did resort to taking a few tablets, not nearly as many as in previous years, and also the eye drops. I would not risk going to another acupuncturist in Lucy’s absence as I know I would have been disappointed, because Lucy has such a passion for her acupuncture, she has a natural healing ability, is very professional, could answer any questions I asked her and I felt totally safe during the treatments.

"I had a riding accident and shattered a bone in my right hand, and subsequently had to have 2 screws put in. After surgery I was unable to go back to work with horses due to the pain, swelling and restricted movement in my hand.

I was scared I could never go back to work again properly because without the full use of my right hand, I would not be able to carry out my job as a groom to the standard required.

After 2 sessions of acupuncture with Lucy, the swelling and pain had gone right down and I had 50% more movement in my hand; my physiotherapist was amazed at my progress!

Since then I have had 2 more treatments and I am almost completely back to normal. I am confident now that I will have a full recovery."

"I have had problems with my lungs for years and every time I went through a climate change I would get a cough and couldn’t get rid of it or at least my immune system couldn’t fight it, so every time I had to take antibiotics. So when I came back home to Roatan, an island in the Carribbean, I came down with another cough.

I had it for two months when I met Lucy and she offered to treat it with acupuncture and since I had it before I was comfortable trying it. We had our first session where she checks your general health issues, takes a very interesting tongue diagnose and than decides where to put the needles.

After the first session nothing has changed so we did a second session and that did wonder, my cough loosend up right away, I had a better breathing and I just coughed occasionally. To make it heal we had a third session and my cough was completely gone. Even when I went back to Europe shortly after I got a cold again but I was through with it in 2-3 days which usually takes me over a week, so I could see my immune system was a lot better. Since Lucy was around and her acupuncture really seemed to help we decided she would treat me for 2 more issues, one was period pain and the other was swollen glands in my breast for about a year, it might sounds strange but both issues were gone after only one treatment, even five months later I still haven’t experienced any period pain neither do I have swollen glands anymore.

Honestly it took her one treatment to get rid of swollen glands in my breast and period pain and I am asking myself why to go and see a western doctor at all if someone can help me in such an easy and unpainful way for even little things that bother you.

I can highly recommend Lucy! I had a lot of acupuncture before but Lucy was by far the best, the way she puts the needles in, the way she pays attention to you and your needs and how she really cares about you and your health issues. She makes you feel like you are the most important patient and you feel absolutely comfortable.

One thing I always wondered was why people ask if it hurts to put needles into their body, well don’t I go to see Lucy because I am in pain and want to get rid of it? So can we not bear a few little needles poking into my body for another pain which will disappear after that. To answer anyone's question, no it does not hurt, just sometimes you have a little feeling of discomfort but for the chance to get rid of a much bigger issue or pain!"

"The yoga knee disappeared after just one session.

The yoga finger took much longer to treat but is now very slightly painful on flexing but I can live with this and will not have the operation for a torn muscle as prescribed by a Western doctor prior to being treated by Lucy.

The treatment of the depression took more sessions and although less tangible initially, the questioning about how I had been feeling and reacting in between sessions really highlighted to me how effective the treatment was being at the time.

I have continued to use ear seeds after my last session with Lucy, to great success and I can honestly say that I feel like a new person and can not remember a time that I have felt this content.

I do not experience the dramatic mood swings that I have experienced pretty much all my life and even though I know that it will be something that I will need to continue to work on and have repeat sessions in the future, I really feel that I can say goodbye to what has been the bane of my life since I can remember.

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Lucy. She did a great job talking me through my options. On top of the success of the treatments, the manner in which Lucy approached the treatment was totally professional and inspired absolute confidence in me. She spent time getting to know me, my ailments and my lifestyle that could, and did, contribute to my symptoms.

I felt 100% comfortable discussing with Lucy very personal information even details that did not initially feel like they were at all relative. I believe that the time that Lucy took initially ultimately assisted in her depth of understanding of me, her treatment of my ailments and the success of those treatments.

She also took time to cover alternative solutions such as diet, ear seeds, preventative actions that I could take on a day-to-day basis and various techniques for changing my behaviours and reactions to exterior influences.

Her passion, knowledge of her subject and commitment shone through leaving me with not only an excellent experience but a belief in this alternative medicine that will ensure that I continue to turn to Eastern medicine as an avenue that I will continue to explore."

"Six sessions, Excellent results with only minor pain in one joint when sessions finished."

"As an Orthopaedic Trained Nurse I became very annoyed with a persistently painful right foot which was not responding to rest or anti-inflammatory tablets. It was simply a walking injury, no trauma, just some swelling and warmth on the top of my foot at the base of my second toe. Pushing off the ground with my foot was painful. Having travelled to Roatan to visit my daughter Ruth, I was now hobbling along the beach like an old woman, limping pathetically.

Ruth suggested Lucy and her acupuncture. Great, anything...to be able to walk comfortably! Lucy promptly visited me the next day and after some questions about my foot and general health, she examined my foot and said she was fairly sure she could help me. I had previously showered and she now asked me to lie down on my bed and having washed her hands she explained that she would gently insert little needles at specific points around the painful area, my toes and one below my knee and another near my right wrist.

Having done that, which hardly hurt at all, she then gently twiddled each needle in order to create a tingling sensation at that point. I would say "Yes" at the tingle.Satisfied that each tweaked needle was correctly positioned, she asked me to relax for 20 minutes or so. No reading or talking. I think I nodded off, there was no discomfort at all. On her return she gently removed the needles and suggested that I elevate the foot and give it the ice treatment. Which I did. The pain was reduced but of course I did not rest it very much as I was on holiday.

Two days later she returned for a second treatment, much the same as the first, but she added another needle to the side of my foot to treat tendons. I explained that the pain was reduced but had not gone. Again, I repeated the 'ice and elevate'. We decided that we would wait 3 to 4 days to see if a third treatment would be necessary.

By the third day the pain had completely disappeared, I was walking normally and I was thrilled to be able to phone Lucy and cancel the last appointment.Believe me, having had that pain for nearly 7 weeks I was just so glad to be able to enjoy the rest of my stay. Thank you Lucy."

"Overall I felt more in control, my headaches disappeared and I felt less anxious. I was also able to focus much more whilst at work. I am also studying part-time for a degree and after being treated my ability to retain information improved as well as my concentration level.

I received about 5 sessions in total, and even after the first session was aware of an improvement.

I feel much better in mind, body an spirit with increased energy levels and better concentration.

I would thoroughly recommend acupuncture to anyone, and do!!! Although I had my doubts at first, I am a convert and now turn to acupuncture before considering chemical alternatives."
